Text of marker: "HOWARD'S MARCH TO JONESBORO. Aug. 1864. Howard's Army of the Tenn. [US], having abandoned siege operations on the W. side of Atlanta, moved S. in a flanking march to cut the West Point R.R. at & below Shadnor Ch. On the 30th, the army moved E. toward Jonesboro to seize and destroy the Macon railroad. Ransom's 16th & Blair's 17th A.C. marched from Fairburn; Logan's 15th, from Shadnor Ch., the 3 merging along this, the main rd. to Jonesboro. Armstrong's & Ross' cavalry [Confederate], resisted the advance from this side of Bethsaida Ch. to & beyond Camp Cr. as far as Renfroe's, from which place the Federals reached Flint River at 10 P.M. 060-170 GEORGIA HISTORICAL COMMISSION 1958" - External Identifiers:
