GEORGIA PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS

1967-68

HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES - Changes in the number of public high school graduates in Georgia's public high schools reflect (1) changes in the number of young people reaching the age at which pupils generally graduate from high school, and (2) the retention rate of the public high schools.
Male graduates as a percent of the total graduates increased from 43% in 1947 to 46% in 1957 and 49% in 1968.
High School Graduates

INCREASED HOLDING POWER - The increased holding power of Georgia public schools is evidenced by the fact that the number of high school graduates increased 170% from 1950 to 1968, while the number of registered live births increased only 45% between 1934 and 1949, the years in which these graduates were born. The children born in 1934 entered school in 1940 and, after completing an eleven-year program, graduated in 1951. The children born in 1950 entered school in 1956 and, after completing a twelve-year program, gradu-
ated in 1968.
