- Talmadge,
provides for an eradication
program that can erase hog cholera from
the farm permanently. This will mean a
$50 million a year savings to hog farmers
throughout the country and more than
two million dollars saving to the Georgia
hog farmer.
Under this program, authorized to be
set up by passage of the bill, diseased
hogs will be condemned and destroyed
and their owners indemnified on a 50-50
federal-state matching basis. State and
federal inspectors would work together
detecting and proving cases of cholera.
The Georgia State Legislature took ac-
tion during this years session to provide
funds for Georgias participation in the.
program.
It is sincerely hoped that the Hoes of
the U. S. Congress will take positive ac-
tion on the bill before adjournment of
this session and that the President will
sign the bill with adequate funds made
available by Congress for immediate ac-
tivation as the start of Georgias hog chol-
era eradication program is awaiting these
actions.
It is also hoped that every state in the
country will, without hesitance, join in
this urgently needed program to eradi-
cate hog cholera.
Georgia farmers are urged to do their
part in this program. Continue vaccinat-
ing for cholera and report any out-break
of this disease immediately to this depart-
ment or your local veterinarian or county
agent.
