This sixteen year old law provides

Florida and required that each bird be
equipped with a metal wing tag.

This wing tagging process is time con-
suming, expensive and unnecessary.

_ Florida is the only state requiring this

practice of Georgia poultry processors. It

_in no way offers protection to the Florida

housewife. The only thing this wing tag
signifies is that the tax has been paid on
the bird.

All Georgia poultry being shipped in-
to Florida is federally inspected for
wholesomeness. Florida should be willing
to accept this inspection as does every
other state Georgia poultry processors
are shipping into.

For several years poultry interests

and egcuiel deaders have met ae

law for the protection of Georgias econ-

negotiated with Slorida officials in an
effort to alleviate this situationto no
avail. With regret the only course left to
Georgia was to impose an equalizing tax
on our neighbor, Florida.

The Governor, agricultural leaders
and the poultry interests of Georgia hope
to avert a permanent retaliation deadlock,
However, we cannot allow Florida or any
other state to impose on the poultry in-
dustry, or any other industry, unfair
trade barriers. The Governor has acted
wisely and cautiously in invoking this

omy.

We are hopeful that by the time this
publication reaches you, this matter will
have been resolved.
