VALUES UP SLIGHTLY
Langley, agricultural statistician, Geor-
_ gia Crop Reporting Service.
This figure is for crops only and does
not include poultry and livestock.
Langley said the increase was due
primarily to a much larger cotton crop
together with a moderate increase in the
production of tobacco and slightly higher
prices received for tobacco,

IBUTION OF 1959 VALUE IN PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL VALUE
. crop with an estimated value of $94,195
000, closely followed by cotton (lint and
seed) valued at $93,524,000. The tobacco
crop ranked third at $64,083,000, while
peanuts with an estimated value of $50
266,000, was fourth.
The value of these four crops accounts
ed for 81.2 percent of the total value of
all crops.
Although yields per acre were abov
average for 1959 crops, unfavorable
weather conditions that plagued farmers
at various times during the growing an
harvesting seasons reduced yields below
the 1958 record harvests. The 1959 yields
of corn, cotton, peanuts, and tobacco have
been exceeded only by last season, while
soybeans for beans, cowpeas for pea
sugarcane sirup, sorghum for grain, an
all hay set new record high yields.
Production of corn at 81,909,000 bush+
_els is the largest in the history of the state
with the exception of the record crop of
86,752,000 bushels produced in 1958.
Frequent rains during September and
October delayed harvesting operations
and damaged the quality and reduced
yields in many areas. Cotton production
is 49 per cent above last season but 20
per cent below the 1948-57 average pros
duction level. Peach and pecan cropg
dropped below the 1958 production buf
were above the 10-year average.
