| Feed Violations Decrease -
Improvement Shown In 58
Due to rigid enforcement of state laws
concerning the manufacture of livestock
feeds, violations and penalties for the first
nine months of this year are less than dur-
ing the same period in 1957.
F.S. Carr who heads up the State De-
partment of Agricultures Food and Feed
Section says that only 9.92 percent of the
samples checked failed to. meet manu--
facturers guarantees during the first nine
months of 1958 as compared with 12.24
percent during the same period of the pre-
vious year.
In addition, according to Carr, penal-
ties for the first nine months of this year
total only 8.12 percent as compared with
10.56 percent during the same period in
1957.
We are continually checking feed sam-
ples in our laboratories to insure that feed
mixtures meet the manufacturers quar-
Carr says. A monthly report of
our laboratory findings is published in the
Market Bulletin for the information of the
general public.
Carr said further that in general, feed
manufacturers are doing a fine job of
maintaining quality in their products and
most violations are unintentional errors
caused by improper mixing of feed ingre-
dients in the feed mills.
was also made for another character
lateness of spring growth.
By 1947, nearly 63 percent of the crop
had some hard seed. And volunteer sand &
that have been produced on an isolated
block since 1948 have stabilized the harde
seed content at 65 to 85 percent.
Following these steps, tests for yield
and for reseeding were made at the Mis-
sissippi Station before the variety was
named. Chief, now ready, is the direct de-
scendent of the many generations raised :

Production Restrictions
On Corn Are Liffed
In the corn production referendum >
held Nov. 25 the majority of the nations
commercial corn producers voted in favor
of a new program that calls for the elimi+
nation of corn acreage allotments and a
new method of setting support prices for
the 1959 and succeeding crops. =
Under the new program approved by:
the majority of those voting, there will be
no restrictions on acreages planted to corn
in 1959 and later years. Price supports on
a national average basis will be 90 per=
cent of the preceding three-year average
price received by producers for corn but
not less than 65 percent of parity for the _
1959 crop. It is estimated that the average
support price will be between $1.12 and _
$1.15 per bushel. :
The new program dispenses with com>
mercial and non-commercial producing
areas. Corn produced anywhere in the
United States that meets quality and store
age requirements will be supported at the ~
same national average level.
The vote in Georgia totaled 6,509 for the
new program and 523 for the old program.
of acreage allotments.
