whether or not the seed is adapted to
Georgia and to your area.

NET. WT.: This tells how much: this
particular bag (or other container) of
seed weighs.

LOT NO.: This is an identifying mark~-

assigned to a certain lot or quantity of
seed. This mark may be a number, name,
a group of letters or any other identity-
ing mark.

PURE SEED: This shows what per-
centage of the seed in the bag (or other
Container) is pure seed. This figure should
not be less than 95 for most agricultural
seed. Actually this number tells you ex-

100 pounds of seed you buy.

Water Is Important
To Swine Production

A good water supply is just as import-
ant to hogs as a good feed supply and
the watering of hogs accounts for about
one-fifth of the work involved in raising
swine on the average Georgia farm, ac-
cording to an Extension Service swine
specialist.

_ Bill Hays of the University of Goveia
College of Agriculture says farmers could
help overcome higher labor costs and do
a more efficient job of swine production
by installing automatic waterers for
swine wherever possible.

Automatic waterers are just as im-
portant as self feeders in the efficient*pro-
duction of pork, he declares.

The Extension swine specialist said
poor gains result when too little water is
consumed by the hogs. This often happens,
he added, when water has to be trans-
ported to pastures and fields. Hays con-
tinued that many farmers allow their -
hogs to travel long distances through con-
taminated lanes to sources of water.

Water enters into practically every
phase of food digestion and assimulation,

Poultry Management
School Sef for March

A Southeastern School of Manage-
ment for the poultry industry will be held
at the University of Georgia in Athens

Princeton, W. Va., president of the South-
eastern Poultry and Egg Association.

The 10-state organization represent-
ing all phases of the poultry industry
will spoisor the school in cooperation
with the Universitys Poultry Division
and College of Business Administration;

Joe M. Tankersley, Gainesville, Ga.,
is chairman of the committee which is
planning the school. The first of three
one-week sessions has been set for the
Universitys new Continuing Education
Center March 3-8, 1957. Other sessions

mediately and. the hard seed that may
germinate at a later date.

WEED SEED: This tells what percent-
age of the seed is weed seed. As a rule
this percentage should be very small.
