mals to the herd. Buy only from sources
you know are reliable and reputable. De-
mand health papers for all the replace-
ment breeding and dairy cattle you buy
and be sure to check the ear tag numbers
or tattoo numbers recorded on these
health papers to see that they correspond

'- to those in the ears of the cows.

Check carefully the results of test
papers and be certain the test indicates
that the animal is negative. If under 30
months of age and calfhood vaccinated
be certain that the animal was officially

vaccinated. Demand an official vaccina-

tion certificate and be sure it is for the
heifer you bought.
Check the ear of the animal for the

Thomas County Leads
In Vegetable Crops

Thomas County is Georgias top vege-
table producing county. and ranks 48th
in the nation according to the 1954 agri-
cultural census conducted by the U. 8.
Department of Commerce.

Census figures released by the De-
partment credit Thomas County with 12,-
827, acres devoted to the production of
vegetable crops valued at $667,163.

According to the figures Thomas leads
all other Georgia counties in the produc-
tion of snap beans and cabbage and ranks ~
second to Brooks County in the produc-
tion of watermelons.

Slate 3 Feeder Calf
Sales This Month

Following success of the statewide
demonstration feeder calf sale at Ameri-
cus last October, the Agricultural Exten-
sion Service and livestock groups
throughout the state will hold three of
the events this year.

They will be held September 18 at
Americus, September 21 at Rome, and
October 9 at Augusta.
