Editorial By TOM LINDER
The following letter from Hon, Jack
Murr, Representative of Sumter County
shows how the milk producers of Georgia
are becoming aware of their problems.
They are beginning to take action to pro-
tect and develop a great dairy industry
for the State:
Honorable Tom Linder :
Commissioner of Agriculture
Atlanta, Georgia
Dear Mr. Linder:
I have observed the present state-wide
milk controversy with a great deal of
interest. It seems that confusion reigns
from the mountains to the Okefenokee,
from the muddy Chattahoochee to the
mighty Savannah. Thinking, too, has be-
come confused because many have per-
mitted their actions to become involved
in a battle of personalities.
This is a regrettable matter, because
the milk producers of this great State
have been neglected. There is, however,
an encouraging aspect of this growing
controversy: It has made the people think,
It_has made the milk producers take a
more active interest: in the affairs of
government. It has made the milk pro-
ducers conscious of their failure to join
hands with others in order to foster and
_ to promote the dairy industry and their
own welfare.
Now we are surrounded with litiga-
tion from without and from within, I
am aware of the actions of your office
and for these reasons I am taking the
liberty of writing you this letter to in-
form you of the actions taken by the milk
producers of this area.
On the 27th day of September, 1950
the Superior Court of Sumter County
granted a charter to sighteen dairymen,
representing four counties. This organi-
zation is called the ASSOCIATION OF
GEORGIA DAIRYMEN, INC. and was
organized to promote the dairy industry
and to promote the welfare of its mem-
bers. The membership has outgrown the

Company, was appointed as Assistant to
the Secretary of State to make Trade
Agreements, I told you at that time that
Mr. Stettinius would not make any Trade
Agreements for the benefit of the Ameri-
ean farmer, but would make agreements
in the interest of the investments of the
Morgen outfit all ever the world.
Readers of the Bulletin will remember
that I told you the real purpose of Re-
eiprocal Trade Agreements was to lower
the standard of living of American farm-

DAIRYMEN AWAKEN TO THER PROBLEMS
the distraught dairymen of Southwest
Georgia, This association Is exactly what
the name implies,
It is making great progress in reach- -
ing the dairymen and lifting the dairy-
~ men, once again, on solid ground, They
had been discouraged but are now en-
couraged, and are beginning to travel
under their own power. This organiza-
tion was not formed to fight anyone or.
to take political stands. Its function, in
_ addition to the above, is to work with
all organizations and enterprises in order
to give to the general public a better
of milk and to insure to the pro-
ucers a fair and equitable treatment.
I may add that this association is really
growing and all dairymen are invited
to join hands with these men in order to
fight for the right and to oppose the
wrong.
This letter may reveal new light on
- the efforts of others, in addition to your
own, in their fight to uphold the stan-
dard in this state. We are enjoying the
fruits of the best milk standards and
these men who have joined their efforts
want these high standards maintained at
all times, The maintenance of these high
_ standards protects the general public.
Trusting that you will continue your
fight and direct your efforts for the good
of all Georgians, I remain,
Sincerely yours,
Jack Murr
The organization referred to by Mr.
Murr is one of several in the State. The
fight to protect the eonsuming publie
from unwholesome milk and dairy prod-
ucts will now receive the united support
of dairy farmers. It will also receive the
support of leaders in the field of educa-
tion. Ft should receive the support of
housewives and mothers. It will receive
their support as fast as they become
aware of the great importance of the
fight that we have been making to pro-
tect them and their children from un-
wholesome and dangerous milk and mille
products.
