We have and a |
- cense of the dealer who is guilty of in-
tentionally defrauding the public.
Such practice by the dealer also sub-
jects him to prosecution in the courts.
Tn addition to this, where eggs are sold
on bid to State Institutions and lower
grades are delivered where. the contract
ealled for Grade *A, such dealer
would be subject to prosecution by the
State for defrauding the State.
~The inspectors have tried to oe 4
the practice of selling Grade B a
Grade C eges as Grade A. ae
have withheld many of these eggs from
sale, but this proved not to be adequate
to correct. the practice. The sale of
Grade B and Grade C eggs as
Grade A is so much against the pub-
bt lic interest that it was determined to
take legal action to put an end to it.
For this purpose, we have instituted
criminal prosecutions against a number
of dealers whom the inspectors found
following the practice of selling Grade
B? and Grade C? eggs under a
Grade A label.
Unfortunately, even prosecutions
have not been as effective as we Howes a
due to the fact that in some c2ses, the
courts imposed only nominal ae anole
as $25.00 or $50.00 with a suspended
sentence.
We now have additional cases pend-
ing in court and should conviction be
had in these cases, it is certainly desired
that adequate punishment be given to
them so as to discourage this practice. |
It is fraud on the consumer of eggs, and
at the same time it is a great injustice
to the farmers producing the eggs in
Georgia, for dealers to follow such a
- course.
We are enue

penalties are inflicted against those who -
import low grade eggs from outside
the State and pawn them off on the
consuming publie. ao
I am of the opinion that in future
the courts will inflict sufficient pen-
alties to discourage this practice.

Pick a to. increase
pe ne of erope to the
-eessive dry weather in the
year, this would have a very stabiliz-
ing influence on market prices and would
also stabilize the consumption of farm
products at a level that would prevent
seasons of unusual scarcity.
It is already evident that the gov-
ernment has again over-estimated the
cotton crop. Cotton and cottonseed
will again be searece before the
crops comes to maturity.
Throughout the winter wheat. belt,
they are having extremely dry weather.
It is a well known fact from the ex-
perience of the years gone by that ex-
winter
wheat belt at this time of year is usually
followed by a short cro op of wheat the
- next year.
It is very probable that we will need
a part of the 1947 erop to splice out a
short Gap 3 in 1 1948.
the reduction,

espe: tive. ghort-
ages, the government is now asking the
to vote for reduction
in peanut acreage in 1948. It is very
likely that the farmers will vote for
peanut growers
the government is to vote for reduction
im acreage.
This request of the government for
a reduction of acreage in peanuts is
coming right in the face of a request to
save all cooking grease by the house-
wives to be turned in for use in in-
dustrial plants. The. farmers will be
doing good business for themselves
and a great service to the country and
to the world if they will pursue a course
of orderly marketing from now on.
