ESULT OF CONTRC
ODUCTION OF SUGAR

Editorial By TOM LINDER

ent exposure of the result of

: Swainsboro, Ga.,
June 11, 1946.

lon. Tom Linder,

mmissioner of Agriculture,
lanta, Georgia. .

lear Commissioner:

Te enjoy every one of your Bul-
et n articles. I noticed in the
June 5th Market Bulletin that

u urge the women in the cities

d on the farms to can and

ve food and not let it waste.

ama farm woman a woman

the soil. I enjoy it and I can

eak for my neighbors near

We farm women certainly
ve worked hard and have
ade good gardens. I always
ant three or. four times and
ep a garden coming in, but

ey

m women are letting food
ste right here. Why? No Sug-
Farm women need more

e know nothing, only to
< hard, then usually get only
pounds of canning sugar.

e farm women have peach-.

_ berries, pears, we canned

fo years ago but cannot use
ecause of the lack of sugar

put with them when we open
. So we just sit down and

it go to waste. No need to

no sugar this year.

Since our colored help was
en from us, due to the war,
have no help now, just my

band and I, and my seventy-.

e year old mother. I plowed
y garden myself.
If I had had some sugar, |

| have put up by this date,

ILLED

June 11th, two hundred and fif-
ty jars, two hundred and fifty
quarts, whereas I have canned

only ninety-six quarts three in -

family fifteen pounds. Sugar
does not go in tea at our house.

To use seven pounds of cu-
cumbers for pickles, calls for
three pounds of sugar. So, how
far will five pounds go on a

farm? Do something at once.

Yours very truly,
Mirs. Luther Sconyers.

4-H Club Work
The 4-H club members are doing a

fine work. The increased enrollment
from year to year is particularly grat-

ifying.

I wish to congratulate the 4-H club

members on their fine work during the

past year, and we are expecting even
ereater things from you in the future.

The fine agricultural work you are
doing and the excellent cooperation
with County Agents and Home Dem-
onstration Agents, who are your local
teachers, show that you are. good ou.

club members.

It is eratifying when we fava over

the tate to find that a great many of

our leaders on the farms and in the
town and cities are former members of
4-H clubs. I -encourage you to bend

forth your greatest efforts and take ad-

vantage of all the opportunities that
4-K club work offers. I hope you will
encourage other boys and girls to joim
the 4-H club. Insist that they take an
active part in club work. .

You have the best wishes of this
writer and other agricultural officials,
and we need your continued help.

If, at any time,I or the Devartment,
can be of assistance to you or others
in the Extension Services in extension
work, it will bea pleasure to help you
in any way possible.

TOM LINDER,
Commissioner of Agriculture.

REGISTER |
AND VOTE

_ On July 17th, 1946, the peo-
ple of Georgia have a date
with destiny. |

The aftermath of the reek
World War brings to fruit- |
age the terrible seed that _
| in the recon- |

were sown
struction era following the
War Between the States. _

Under the new Constitu-

tion of Georgia, you have un- | |
til July 5th to register so that |

you can vote on July 17th.

Fulton County alone i is an
exception to this rule. In the

other one hundred and fifty-
eight counties, the registra-
tion books close on July 5th.

The ballot i is simply a meth- |

od that civilized man has

substituted for the bayonet

in deciding who shall consti-

tute the government of the

land.

If you are. eligible to vote

and fail to do so, you fail in.
your first duty to your State

and Nation.

If you are eligible to vote
and fail to do so, you are re-
sponsible for the ills which |

may come upon you.

Do you have friends and

neighbors who are not regis-
tered? Wont you contact
them and see that they are
registered ?

TOM LINDER,

Comm of Agriculture.
