are no refrigeration facilities for lack
of space. x

Rents are so high that they con-

stitute a menace to legitimate business
en the markets.

The object on proposed leisla-

tion is to create a marketing authority
in those big cities that can go out in an

uncongested part of the city and build |

modern facilities for wholesalers, retail-
ers, truckers and the general public
with plenty of room for traffic to move,

and with rents low enough that the

farmers produce will not be burdened
with exhorbitant rents.

This is a splendid idea. There is no

reason why it should not be done. It -
should have been done years ago.

With new and modern marketing
facilities in cities like New York, Phila-
delphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, ete.,

~ete., and with a mammoth market near

or in Washington, D. C., with adequate

radio facilities and with Georgia repre-_
markets to:

sentatives on these great citv
contact the merchants personally and
individually, it will not be difficult to
channel our farm products through this
Washineton market and distribute them
in such a wayasa prevent g oluts on these
markets.

MARKETS FOR MINES -

I have, in previous articles, called

attention to readers of the Bulletin of

the tremendous need of markets in the
mining towns of West Virginia and
Pennsylvania. Honorable J. B. Me-
Laughlin, Commission of Agriculture of
West Virginia, spent a'few days in At-
lanta recently. He is very much inter-
ested in the establishment of a Farmers

Market in the vallevs of West Virginia.

He and I are on exactly opposite
ends of the marketing problem,

He needs fresh fruits and vegetables
for the people of the mining districts
ot West Virginia, while our need is to
sell fresh fruits and vegetables. |

He and I have planned to get to-
gether in February and try to work out
cooperatively a plan between West Vir-

ginia and Georgia for the establish-

ment of a Farmers Market in the coal
mining valleys.
