: Can any sane man doubt. that the men
who- control iron, steel and automobiles in

this country also controlled our State De-
Seg in making) these trade gy eements?

In view ae these figures, ghould sane aa
riots consider giving more authority to such
men as Stettinius of J.P. Morgan and Com-

pany, to suchmen as Will Clayton of Ander-

son- Clayton Cotton Co., to such men as Rock-
efeller. It is inconceivable that men elected |
py the people of the United States to repre-
sent them in congress and the United States.
Senate should think for one moment of do-
| ang this.

x

The farmers of the. nation were Lola

that, if Congress would pass the oe
Trade Agreements Act, this would find .

market in foreign countries for the ee
cotton, wheat, etc. Farmers were told that
they were piling up surpluses of cotton and
wheat and other crops in this country. They
were told that it was necessary to pass the

Trade Agreements Act so that the State De-

partment could find a market for these crops
in other lands. os -

A study oft the government oie. as

revealed in Table 619 on pages 631 to 669 of
Statistical Abstract of the United States of
1942, shows some. amazing facts.

Net only have they failed to find a mar-*

a for the farmers crops under the trade
treaties, but we have actually increased im-
ports of agricultural crops to the tune of

| many billions of dollars.

Under operation of the age treaties,
according to government figures,
imported cotton and cotton manufactured

goods and cotton substitutes in a famount

equivalent to thirty-three million bales of
cotton.

On August 1, 1941, the carry- over. of Am-
erican cotton was 12, 166,000. bales.

J have shown | you where we have used

eotton and cotton substitutes during the same
period to the equivalent of over 33, 000,000

Fe

Had we used Aaterican cotton in place

of these imports, on August 1, 1941, we would
have been 21,000,000 bales short.

With all the hue and cry shout the goy-

ernment being loaded down with cotton, the

facts were brought out by government wit-

nesses at the hearing, that government hold-

ings of all cotton now are down to less than
five million bales,

Nearly all of this cotton, in government
