Honey 8 Show to Open Monday
ok Honey Show put on by the Georgia Bee- | ae
keepers. Association and the State Department of |
Entomology: will open at the Sears-Roebuck Farm- -
ers Market in Atlanta next Monday, ae 4th, and
will run for one week.
The purpose of this show is to display the var-
ious kinds of honey produced in Georgia and to
snow the value of honey as a food, with a view of
increasing the consumption of honey.
--Dhe Honey and Bee industry in the state is al-
ready a million-dollar business, ranking ahead of
several crops in value. The honey. produced annual_
-ly by the 200,000 colonies of bees in the state is val-
ued at $700,000; beeswax is valued at $50,000; bees |
sold in packages and shipped are valued at $175, 000, .
- and sale of queen bees brings to Georgia each year
an income of $75,000, ach: queen being valued at
i from 50 cents to $1.00. :
These shipments last year were to 29 states, 9
Canadian provinces. and 6 foreign countries.
Honey is a valuable food and Georgians are
urged to eat. more of eS and to use more of a in
foods.) =
In addition to the honey they produce, pees are
also veyy valuable in pollinating various plants, the >
production of these plants being dependent upon
pollination, and mostly by bees. |
- Georgia Honey and: Bee producers who desire
to display at the show should get in touch with the
Entomology Department, State Capitol, or to Mr. C.
H. Bishop, at Sears-Roebuck Market, who will man-
age the Show. Georgians are also, urged to visit the
abow from Nov. 4-9.
