The only periods of peace that the world has ever known

Pron 1865 until 1914 there was no major war in the world.
During that period the British Empire reached its greatest

From the Spanish minencan War until 1914 the United

The same policy which brought the world to war is apy

turn hse or pay additional sums of money for the privilege 0
going through that state.

Ships coming from South ae Cuba and the islands of
_the Caribbean Sea have only to dock at Baltimore, New Orleans

New York or any other seaport and unload their cargo of vege
tables while the farmer, going from Georgia with a truck loa

of the same kind of vegetables, runs the risk of losing them ev:
ery time he crosses a state line.

This condition has been brought about through propaganda
of people who had-an axe to grind.

This condition must be remedied.

The Highway Department, the Public Service Conn
and the Department of Agriculture working together should be
able to work out an agreement with a number of other states

remedy this condition, and I believe we can. | ae :

Georgia cannot afford to become a party to a policy of
couraging trade barriers. Georgia can and should produce te:
times as much vegetables and truck crops as it can possibly con
sume. Ninety per cent of our crop must Uerougk other states |
on the way to market.

- It is suicide for Georsia to retaliate against trade barriem
Georgia must take the lead in having trade barriers a

Sage me gone from twenty cents per pound to more than
a dollar per pound in the last few weeks.

-- When I was a boy almost every farm home had a row
two of sage growing in the garden or in the back yard. \

We are rapidly developing a large pimiento industry in
Georgia due mostly to the war in Spain having destroyed th
supply of pimientos coming from Spain to this country. It looks
like we can develop a good sage business here if the war contin
ues, because there is a demand for a tremendous amount of sage
in the United States.

Sage seed come from a section known as Dalmatia, which
includes Yugoslavia, a part of Greece and some other sections :
where the war is now going on.

. There are no sage seed to be had in this Couns If you have 3
a neighbor who has any sage and you can get a few stalks, dont
fail to do so, as no sage can be planted until seed can be brought
from the war zone.
