_ $7.50 an Acre to Plant Pine
Trees _ :
That is what the Federal age
offers Georgia farmers who set pine trees
on land taken out of cotton now devoted
to soil-building and other crops.
Personally, we are having our county
-agent check up and see how much land we
ean devote to this purpose on our farm.
We want to get our trees set before De-
cember 30th so as to have them included in
this years conservation payments.
Now, it will take 680 trees set an acre
eight feet apart each way and these will
cost $1.36 delivered to you. At the rate
of $2.00 per 1,000 trees, it should not cost
- over $1.50 an acre to set these trees, mak-
ing $2.86, leaving you a profit of $4.74 an
acre to start with. Then this land will
steadily increase in value each year if fire
is kept off of it, until in fifteen years it
would rent for $50. 00 a year for turpen-
tine alone, to say nothing of poles, pulp-
wood, or saw timber. .
We figure it is just about the best
That is
why we are setting trees this year. Figure
it out for yourselves and see what you
make of it. Then write Frank Hayward,

New Fertilizer Laws |
The new amendment to the Fertilizer
law passed at the last special session of
the General Assembly, went into effect
July 1st.
You will see the change as stated in
the analysis on the sack. Nitrogen now
comes first and is stated in whole numbers,
For instance, instead of an 8-3.29-4, we.
now have a 4 8-4. This fertilizer will be
just a little higher in price, but carries
enough more nitrogen to make up the dif-_
ference. No fertilizer containing less than |
14 per cent of plant food can be sold. =
' Farmers should see that all fertilizer
is properly tagged and stamped when re-
ceived, for otherwise, under the new law,
: it is liable to seizure.
If there is anything you do not under :
stand about the new law, do not hesitate |
to call upon us. -~
