STATE-CAPITOL _
ATLANTA, GEORGIA, THURSDAY, JULY5, 1934,
_ Two high powered, high salaried Code (Quasi-Goverhment)
- Gfficials came into my office last-week and urged that I consent |
to the cancellation of the contract which we have with the At-
lanta Veterinary Supply Company for the furnishing of Hog
Cholera'Serum and Virus to the farmers. This contract was
|| made prior to'the adoption of a code by the serum _ and |
ie still has the balance of 1934to run.
Tis contaat iteeidas: that the above company Shall sell
|| through this Department virus at $1. 00 per 100 cc:and serum
t. at 35c per 100 cc. Since this contract has been effective it has
already saved the farmers of this: state More than $14,000:00
in the:differene in the pricethey had topay and that charged
regularly by the serum people.
The reason given by these people: for desiring the cancella-
tion of the. contract was that since the adoption of the code*no
other company could compete for this business.
- The Code provides the following. prices: From the manufac- |
turer to the distributor, selling price for serum 34c per 100 cc,
to the dealer 44c per 100cc and to the FARMERS 55c per 100:
ec. The cancellation of this contract would. enable all the serum
_ manufacturers to sell serum in Georgia and cause 50,000. farm-
ers in the State to payan: additional: 20 ne seu cc for their
-~serum.
' This is just another instanee of Big Fish living off the
Little ones. :
After F positively niakeged: to consent to the consclintisn of
fi this contract, these men intimated that the Code Authorities
would: probably issue a Desist Order against the Colorado
Serum Company (the manufacturer who furnished the Atlanta
Veterinary Supply Company with serum) and thus stop them |
from furnishing: any serum and virusto the Atlanta Veterinary
Supply Company. Such an order would automatically prevent
myother serum company from furnishing these: people with
serum and virus and prevent our farmers from receiving the |
advantage of this contract which they have with the~ above
eens: ' :
At is my huiepses Shenk this: willnot be done at's in view of the Ns
fact that it possibly may be done soon, I would: advise that-all
those farmers' who: expect to treat:their hogs in the near future
to dose at onc'so that they can take advantage of the: present
low: prices of virus. and serum.

Commissioner of Agriculture.
