PROPER USE OF THE MARKET BULLETIN

eo AL peseeni there are over 85,000 subscribers to the Market
_ Bulletin. New names are coming in every day. The office
force works hard to keep this paper a straightforward, busi-
ness like paper, where you may advertise what you have and
ship what you have for sale. They also work hard to publish
ads from people who will deal fairly with their customers.
Every day complaints are brought to my desk. These .are

all followed up. I am glad to say that the number of com-

plaints has decreased.

A great many of these pornplecits could be eliminated, if
_ people would be more particular about the preparation of their
packages and- plants for shipment. Last week I received a
complaint froma party where the plants were shipped prompt-
ly. They were young potato plants but were packed dry in an
air tight container. When they reached their destination they
were rotten.

I also have numerous complaints oar parties shipping

_ flower cuttings without any moist moss around their roots. Of

course they arrive dead and are of no value. The evidence
shows that they were perfectly good plants and bargains at
the price, if they had been shipped properly. |
When you ship any kind of plants find out the care that is
_ necessary to pack them so that they will reach the parties,
~ who have ordered them, in good condition. Remember this.
You owe this to the parties who have ordered from you. Re-
member also, that these plants will stay in the mail on an aver-
age of three or four days after they are pulled up to ship.
There is a big difference in the looks of plants after they have
been bundled up and knocked about in the mail for a day or
two from what they would be if carried direct by you to the
purchaser a short distance. So pay more attention to this part
of your work. Prepare your package and your plants properly
for shipping in response to the advertisements you place in
the Market Bulletin. If you do not know how to ship them
properly, then find out. :
Do not advertise anything in the Bulletin that you cannot

ship as stated.

-any chicks.

We have had to fale out a warrant for Felton McDougal
of Lavonia. He advertised baby chicks at $9.50 a hundred.
He got lots of orders and cashed the checks but did not send
If any of you ean apprehend him please notify
us. He belongs-in jail. ;

Do not wait too long to get out your poison for the boll
weevil.

My experience has beew that the early poisoning of the boll
weevil pays the best.

Last year we had a heavy infestation of weevils. Have your
cotton early, leave it thick, fertilize it well and plow it fast..
This helps keep the weevil down. But this is not always
enough. Last year I had a field that was handled this way
but it was practically destroyed by the weevil. I should have
poisoned this field.

I have a statement from the Eslewne firms that they will
sell Caleium Arsenate at 6 1-2 cents per pound, less 5 percent,
in ecarload lots, delivered anywhere in Georgia,- up until.
