oe Fertilizer
The present law with reference to the inspection of fer-
tilizers provides for six long term inspectors to be employed
for twelve months in the year and forty short term inspectors
to be employed for four months in the year. The time for the
fertilizer inspectors south of Macon will expire on the 17th
of this month. The movement of fertilizers in South Georgia
is practically over. Of course there is some fertilizer which
moves all the year round.
After the 17th of this month, anyone in South Georgia
wishing their fertilizer inspected should communicate with
this Bf hee or with one of the three long term men, who is
located nearest them. These men are:
W. E. Sealy, Cuthbert,
B. F. Reid, McRae,
J. MeMann, Lyons,
The last of this month the term of the short term inspect-
ors north of Macon will expire. After that time anyone in
north Georgia wishing to have their fertilizer inspected should
communicate with this office or with the long term man near-
est them. These inspectors are:.
W. M. Peacock, Rome,
E. H. Dorsey, Athens,
J. L. Alexander, Forsyth.
~The average number of fertilizer samples taken in pre-
vious years was about 5000. Since Januaty 1 of this year to
Inspection
>
date we have taken 11,956 samples. Before the time the sea-
son is over this will go considerably over 12,000. The capacity
of the Chemical Laboratory is only 60 samples. a day: You ;
can readily see that this causes the reports to be delayed from
the time they are sent in by the inspectors. We have just com-
pleted the reports on samples sent in during the month of
March. April was the heaviest month that we had. : The
samples for the next month will be delayed more than they
have been up to the present time. I regret this very much |
as I know that the farmer wants a report on his fertilizer as
soon as possible after the sample is taken. However, with
the present equipment in the Chemical Laboratory we cannot
get these reports out any faster than on an average of sixty
a day. a) (
Every man who has had his fertilizer sampled will get a re-
port on the analysisin the order in which the samples are
filed in the laboratory. We need some legislation on this
matter providing for an increased output in the Jaboratory.
IT am of the opinion that no reports should be delayed
longer than thirty days from the time the sample is drawn.
I am writing this in order that you farmers may know ex-
actly what is the eause of the delay, as we have a-good many
letters daily inquiring why the report on the sample has not
reached them.
