In August, manufacturing employment contracted as 2,600 jobs were lost. The shedding of non-farm workers was concentrated in durable goods with the loss of 2,500 jobs while employment in non-durable goods declined by 100 workers. Payrolls in the other services sector, which includes religious, grantmaking, and personal care services, shrank by 2,000 positions over the month. This sector has experienced reductions in employment for three of the last four months.

Over the year, employment in Georgia is up 72,200, or 1.5 percent. Private education and health services (+26,500 jobs), government (+20,500 jobs), leisure and hospitality (+18,100 jobs), financial activities (+6,500 jobs), and manufacturing (+2,800 jobs) added the most jobs from August 2023 to August 2024.
In August 2024, Georgia's unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) increased to 3.6 percent over the month. The unemployment rate in Georgia remains well below the 4.2 percent national average. Over the year, Georgia's rate is up from 3.2 percent in August 2023.
