On September 4, 1935, the late Rosie and Fred Ivey were blessed
with their first born whom they named, FREDDIE MAE. She was
the eldest of four children. Her death on Sunday, November 23,
2014 signaled the end of her earthly connection with us.
Freddie Maes religious journey began seventy plus years ago with
her Christening at Bethel A.M.E. Church. She grew up serving
in Bethel, and she became affiliated with the Stewardess Board,
Womens Missionary Society, Twentieth Century Board and Happy
Bunch.
Her early education was received from Steed Street, Immaculate
Conception and C. T. Walker Elementary Schools. She attended
Lucy Craft Laney High School and was a member of the Class of
1954. In preparing for a successful life in the world of work, she chose
a career in the healthcare sector as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
She was well traveled, both domestically and internationally.
Because of the beautiful, eye-catching, well-coordinated attire she
always wore, many considered her a fashion diva. She was always
very well dressed. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing bingo and
spending quality time with her family and friends.
In the social arena and for more than sixty years, Freddie Maes
passion has been with the American Legion where she was a
member of the Executive Board on the district level. She has also
served as President of the American Legion Auxiliary-Department
of Georgia, and of the Ladies Auxiliary, Post 505.
Cherishing her memories are: two sons, Dr. Thomas (Myrtice) Perry
and SFC Jamie (Chunita) Vick; sister, Ann M. (William) Allen; two
brothers, John W. (Colis) Ivey and Walter D. (Ernestine) Ivey; six
grandchildren, Danielle, Reverend Devon Perry, Ciera, Tatyanf,
Ashlyn and Alexis; great grandchild, Kennedy; and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
Freddie Mae enjoyed a full, good life, and as she neared the end
of her journey on last Sunday, she said these words to her brother,
John: Im not tired, Im ready to go.

When I come to the end of my journey and I travel my last weary
mile, just forget if you can, that I ever frowned, and remember only
my smile. Forget the unkind words I have spoken, remember some
good I have done. Forget that I ever had heartaches and remember
Vve had loads of fun. Forget that I have stumbled and blundered and
sometimes fell by the way, remember I have fought some hard battles,
and won, ere the close of the day. Then forget to grieve for my going,
I would not have you sad for a dcy. But in summers just gather some
flowers, and remember the place \>here I lay. And come in the evening
when the sun paints the sky in tae west, stand for a moment beside
me, and remember only my best.
We, the family of Freddie Mae Ivey Vick, want you to know that
we are indeed grateful to each of you for all acts of kindness
extended to us and for all prayers uttered for us during our hours
of bereavement. It is also our prayer that God will richly bless each
of us.
