children, Rilla Morgan, Jehugh, Jr. (Chicken), and Jeffery Curtis, all whom
have preceded her in death, and one remaining brother, Clarence Bryant
Mildred graduated from Englewood High School in 1944 and attended
Central YMCA and Chicago Teachers College. She married Patrick
Crigler and from this union was blessed with three children, Edith Lucille
Patrick Vincent (Khalid), and Thelma Theresa. Patrick preceded her in
death. In 1971 Mildred married Leonard B. Stewart which joined her
three children with his five, Leonard, Fazlu, Aisha, Amtul, Qudsia.
To see God all one had to do was look at Mildred. Her life was one of
total devotion to her husband, children, family and friends. She enjoyed
reading, cooking, sewing and entertaining friends. She led a phenomenal
spiritual life, giving and ministering to others.
Her strong personality and leadership qualities could be witnessed through
her work at the Chicago Police Department and her rise to Section
Commander of the Record Inquiry Section. Mildred retired in 1993
leaving a professional legacy for her staff to follow.
Everyone who knew Mildred loved her, for the life she lived was one of
total unselfishness- her motivation to serve others, being an inspiration
to all. Even through illness she continued to give of herself totally.
On May 16, 1997, she was met with a smile from the Creator of all, and
now will be folded in the arms of her mother and father. She has been
called home and greeted into the place God has prepared, she now has
the eternal peace of God.

Id like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
Id like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
Id like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
Of happy memories that I leave
When life is done.

Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.

Each of us brings to the world unique talents, gifts and abilities. Even if
you dont know what it is, or value what you do, someone, somewhere,
will benefit from your presence. No one can do what you do exactly the
way you do it. It is this uniqueness that makes you valuable to the world.
We are each as unique and valuable as the other. It was designed that
way. A gift from God. Gifts are not given on the basis of race or gender.
As a matter of truth, gifts come in many shapes, sizes and colors. When
you do what you do, exactly the way you do it, you are sharing Gods
gifts, bestowed for the good of the world.

God wanted us to learn some things:
What joy a gentle touch can bring,
What kindness and compassion do,
And how a firm hand helps us too;
What strength there is in gentleness,
What power lies in a caress,
How one can show love for another
and so he gave me you...
