Memorial Reflections
Reuben Lamont Smith was bom on February 18, 1981 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Overseer Richard E.
Smith, Sr. and Elder J. Nell Smith. He made his early transition suddenly at his home on Monday morning, October
14, 2019.
Growing up in a military family, Reuben had the opportunity to travel the world before his father retired at Fort Gor-
don, Georgia. He was a 1999 graduate of Butler High School, Home of the Bulldogs. He pursued a truck driving
career for thirteen years and drove for Kennesaw Transportation. Reuben was always known as the special child of
the Smith Family. He was gifted in so many areas of his life, but the special gift that God gave him was a Minister of
Music. He started playing the drums at the tender age of four, but his love for music didnt stop there. Though Reu-
ben played many instruments, his real love was for the keyboard and organ. He started taking piano lessons, at the
age of eleven, for one year with his 4th grade teacher and decided he was ready to leam on his own. His parents did-
nt question his decision, because they knew it was a Gift that God gave him and he would play with the anointing of
the Holy Ghost. He had a special mentor by the name of Jessie Ricardo Howard of Fayetteville, North Carolina that
inspired him to craft his gift and become the head minister of music at his home church, Christ Church of Augusta,
where his parents are the Pastors. He was not only a blessing to his home church, but he was a blessing to so many
other ministries around the world. The day before he transitioned, he was at First Baptist Church of Keysville, where
many members of the church said he played the organ under the Anointing of the Holy Ghost until a glow showed
upon him.
Minister Reuben Smith was outgoing, sociable, intelligent, friendly and a giver. He has helped so many people during
his lifetime. He cherished his time with his family; and especially his son, Zavier Smith, who was his pride and joy.
The love he had for his child, parents, and siblings was immeasurable. At his home church Christ Cathedral, Fayette-
ville, North Carolina, Reuben shared a special bond for 38 years with his childhood brothers, Dr. J.L. Porter, Jason
Ross, Samuel Patrick, Jr., Carvas Jones & Jermaine Porter, that will always be remembered by his family.
Minister Smith is survived by: his parents, Pastors Richard and Nell Smith of Augusta, Georgia; his son, Zavier
Smith of Atlanta, Georgia; two brothers, Rommie Smith (TyrHien) of Grovetown, Georgia and Richard Smith, Jr. of
Hephzibah, Georgia; two sisters, Betty Holland (Wayne) of Roseboro, North Carolina and Tia Smith of Hephzibah,
Georgia; a special nephew of the home, Khalil Smith; seven other wonderful nieces and nephews, three beautiful
great-nieces and 2 handsome great-nephews; one great-aunt, Dora Martin of Winston Salem, North Carolina; three
aunts, Vinnie Whitley, Betsy Allen (James), and Cassandra Frederick of Warsaw, North Carolina; one uncle, Larry
Frederick of Washington, D.C.; a special cousin, Angela Core (Rodney) and host of many cousins, earthly brothers,
earthly sisters and friends.
____________...Dad...________________
If I could write a story
It would be the greatest ever told
Of a kind and loving Dad
Who had a heart of gold.
I could write a million pages
But still be unable to say, just how
Much I love and miss him
Every single day.
I will remember all he taught me
I'm hurt but won't be sad
Because I know that when I talk to Jesus,
He'll answer me and let me know that
You'll always be MY DAD.
Love You Always, Your Son,"Zav Zavier Smith
gkrtuce of Remembrance
Thy sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give unto thee: but the Lord
shall be unto thee and everlasting light, and they God thy glory.
