The Liturgy for the Dead
The liturgy for the dead is an Easter liturgy. It finds all of its meaning in
the resurrection. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we too shall
be raised.
The liturgy, therefore, is characterized by joy, in the certainty that
neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present,
nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else
in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Jesus
Christ our Lord.
This joy, however does not make human grief unchristian. The very
love we have for each other in Christ brings deep sorrow when we are
parted by death. Jesus himself wept at the grave of his friend. So, while
we rejoice that one we love has entered into the nearer presence of our
Lord, we sorrow in sympathy with those who mourn.
The Book of Common Prayer
This Church is open at all times to all people.

The family wishes to express its deepest and sincere appreciation for the
many visitors, prayers, cards and other acts of kindness shown towards
us in this time of bereavement. Not one card will go unread, not one
flower will go unrecognized, not one kind thought of sorrow spoken will
go unheard, and not one tear will fall from a face and be forgotten. At a
later date, the family will acknowledge all deeds individually.

Obituary
Harrison Cicero Powell, III
November 22, 1965 - February 12, 2008
Harrison C. Powell, III was bom to Harrison C. Powell, II
(who preceded him in death) and Ola Belle Harris Powell in
Augusta, Georgia. He was the youngest child in a large
family. Because it takes more than parents to rear children, he
and his nephew, Gerald (Jerry) were often cared for by his
great aunt, Iola Lee (Aunt Mutt).
He and Jerry were inseparable. They became the bosses of all
of Harrys nieces and nephews.
Harry, as he was affectionately called by his siblings,
Gerald (Big Brother), Georgette (Jijette), Joseph (Joe),
Jamison (Jamie) and Fredericka (Freddie), Diane, and Dawn.
He felt he had all parents and no siblings because of the large
difference in his age and his siblings.
Having his parents and older sisters and brothers helped him
endure the 42 years of sickle cell crises he encountered. From
a baby, Harrison entered the hospital at least three to five
times every year. That means, he was hospitalized at least
130 times during his life. Sometimes his stay would include
two to three weeks at a time. Each time, he would return
home to his family. He was always victorious in his battles.
He returned home this time too. He went home to be with our
Heavenly Father.
He attended school in Richmond County and graduated from
Glenn Hills in 1984. His other education attainments
included the following: an Associate Degree in Criminal
Justice in 1987 from Augusta College; Certification as a
Police Officer from Richmond County Policy Academy in
1989; Commercial Drivers Training School License in 2000;
and the completion of a Business Finance Certificate from the
University of Georgia Small Business Development Center in
2002.
Harrison was a people person. He loved being out in the
public. This was demonstrated in his choices for employment
which included: Clear Channel Broadcasting Inc. as an
Administrative Sales Representative; Delta Airlines as a Delta
Direct Representative; Investigator for Richmond County
Sheriffs Department; and Salesman for Acura of Augusta.
