Ridge Spring, South Carolina on August 13, 1912, to the late Fletcher and Willie B.
Raiford. The Angels of the Lord were sent to her bedside on Tuesday, February 20,
2007, and spoke my faithful Servant job well done.
She was educated in the public school system and graduated from Haines Institute
Minnie was baptized at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Ridge Spring, South Carolina.
Upon moving to Augusta, she became affiliated with the Antioch Baptist Church un-
der the leadership of the late Reverend Yancey.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Alfonso Peterson. From this union three
children were born, two which preceded her in death, Wendell R. and Oswald A.
Peterson.
After moving to the Sand Hill area, she became a member of the Elim Baptist Church,
where she served in many capacities until her health failed.
Minnie was an accomplished seamstress and a lover of most sports. She loved golf,
tennis, football, wrestling, but most of all she was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Her memory will be forever cherished by: her daughter, Mrs. Florence Glover; six grand-
children, Chandra Douglas, Corwin Bentley, Carol Lambert, all of Augusta, Georgia,
Derrick and Andre Peterson of Chicago, Illinois and Dawn (Antoine) Jester of
Sicklerville, New Jersey; seven great grandchildren, Tamarah (Edward) Carver, Will-
iam and Christopher Douglas, Jason, Johanna and Jaleesa Lambert, all of Augusta, Geor-
gia; and Oswald Moore of Sicklerville, New Jersey; three great-great grandchildren,
Cameron and Quinton Douglas and Alexandria Lambert, all of Augusta, Georgia;
brother, Reverend Donald Williams; sister, Mrs. Dorothy Williams and Mrs. Gladys
Williams, all of Deland, Florida; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Josephine Peterson of Highland
Park, Michigan; adopted families, Mr. and Mrs. Henri Freeman, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy
Johnson, Rebecca Parks, Solomon Parks and Henry Sturgis; and a host of nieces, neph-
ews, other relatives and friends.
Letter From A Qrandchild
Dear Granny,
Thanks for helping my mom raise me and then helping me raise my children. You were
always there for me letting me see what a strong Black Woman you were. There were days
when I told you I have just had enough, then you would point out the positive and tell me, girl
dont you act like that.
God knew how much pain you were in, and even though we loved you so much, He knew it
was time for you to go to your eternal home. I know you are happy, pain free, and it was a
great reunion once you got to heavens gate.
I will miss you, but you will always be in my heart, and one day we will meet again.
Love,
Laine (Chandra)
