Dea. Marion Sonny Mitchell
Dea. Marion "Sonny" Mitchell, Jr. went home to be with the
Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at University Hospital,
Augusta, Georgia. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on January 8,
1934 to the parents of the late Marion and Mamie Mitchell. He
attended Weed Elementary School and graduated from Immaculate
Conception High School in 1953. He is a veteran of the U. S.
Marines.
At an early age Dea. Mitchell accepted Christ and was
baptized at Elim Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend R.
L. Boyd. During his early years at Elim he served as a loyal usher.
Most of his adult life was spent in Atlantic City, New Jersey where
he worked as a night auditor.
Upon his relocation to Augusta in 2004, he re-united with
Elim Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Charles E.
Smith, and remained faithful until his passing. He actively
participated in Bible Study and Sunday School. He was a supporter
and loyal member of the Golden Agers Ministry. He also was a
member of the Sanctuary and the Mens Choir and was ordained a
deacon on January 13, 2008.
Dea. Mitchell leaves to cherish his memories a beloved and
devoted sister, Mrs. Mary Youngblood; two devoted nieces, Mrs.
Brenda (Hector) Ortiz and Ms. Joann Tarver; other nieces, Mrs.
Roberta (Robert) Jordan, Cleveland, OH; and Ms. Joyce
Youngblood, FL; nephews, Marion (Pamela) Youngblood, Jr.,
Antioch, TN, and Freddie Youngblood, Dallas, TX; and other
relatives and friends.
