OBrrUARY
"God has smiled on me and set me free".
There is no better life than to be with thee.
MR. GEORGE FRANKLIN MATTHEWS, a son of the late
Lester and Georgia Davenport Matthews was bom
in Saluda Cbunty, SC, on September 23, 1922. He
quietly departed this life on Thursday Morning,
March 5, 1992 in the Self Memorial Hospital after
a long illness.
He was a faithful member of the Phillipi Baptist
Church, where he served on the Deacon Board and
a member of the Senior Choir. He was also a mem-
ber of the Sons of Aide.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Miss Annie
Abney. To this union seventeen children were
bom; two children preceded him in death.
He will be missed dearly by family and those who
knew and loved him, but we bow in humble sub-
mission to the Father above with the assurance
that we shall meet again on that beautiful shore.
Pleasant memories will linger on in the hearts
of his devoted wife, Mrs. Annie M. Matthews of
the home; daughters, Edna M. Coleman and Marie
Lindsey, Washington, DC, Gennell Attaway, Hous-
ton, TX, Lanbert Kinard, Winnie Abney, Gloria
Smith, Alice Matthews and Vanessa Matthews all
of Saluda, SC, and Ttommie Etta Gadson, Irmo, SC;
sons, George Warren, Mt. Rainer, M3, Layfette,
Florida, Jessie Jene, Chappells, SC, Nathaniel
Samuel, Bennie Kelvin, Ronnie and John Oscar all
of Saluda, SC; forty-one grandchildren, fifteen
great grandchildren; three daughters-in-law,
five sons-in-law; four sisters-in-law, three
brothers-in-law; one aunt, Mrs. Ludie B. Chapman
Saluda, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other
relatives and many sorrowing friends.
Huibly submitted,
THE FAMILY
ANOTHER SOLDIER GONE
Another soldier gone
To get a great reward;
He fought the fight and kept the faith
And now gone heme to God.
He fought until he fell
Upon the battle field,
And then he heard the General say,
"Lay down your sword and shield".
His soul has gone to God.
Hie earth has claimed its own,
And now hes shouting 'round the throne,
While we are left to mourn.
Sane day we'll meet again,
Our loved one gone before;
Sane day we'll reach that happy land,
Where parting is No More.
THE FAMILY.
