Don't think of her as gone away, her journey's just
begun; life holds so many facets, this earth is only one.
Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the
tears, in a place of warmth and comfort, where there
are no days or years. Think how she must be wishing,
that we could know today; how nothing but our
sadness, Can really pass away. And think of her as
living in the hearts of those she touched, for nothing
loved is ever lost, and she was loved so much.
If I can do my duty, as a good woman ought
If I can bring back beauty, to a world that's so rot
If I can spread love's message, as the Master taught
Then my living shall not be in vain.
By Mahalia Jackson
If I can help somebody, as I pass along
If I can cheer somebody, with a word or song
If I can show somebody, that he's travelling wrong
Then my living shall not be in vain.

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be
uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that
you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have
no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose
again, and so we believe that God will bring with
Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
We, the family wish to express our heartfelt thanks
for all who have offered their love, support, and
prayers during this difficult time. We thank you for
your presence here today. May God richly bless
each one of you as He has blessed and honored us
by giving us a wonderful wife, mother, daughter,
grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Reverend Christopher J. Waters, Pastor

The Griffin family was again blessed when
JACQUELINE LOUISE PHILPOTT-MAKIN, known
as Jackie to family and friends, was born on January
31, 1964 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to Johnny Smith
and Louise Beasley. She and her parents later
moved to Augusta, Georgia while Jackie was still a
young child. Jackie left Augusta after the marriage
of Louise and Edward Beasley. As a military family,
they moved to Kansas. Jackie and her family
returned to Augusta, Georgia where Jackie attended
several schools before graduating from Academy of
Richmond County. She continued her education
at Fort Valley State University where she graduated
with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, but
her education did not stop there. Jackie loved
learning. She went on to receive a Masters Degree in
Instructional Tfechnology; she received an Education
Specialist in Advanced Educational Administration,
and she pursued a doctorate and completed all but
her dissertation. Most recently, she received an
Associate of Applied Science in Cyber Security.
Jackie served briefly in the United States Air
Force. From there, she became a deputy and later
an Investigator for the Richmond County Sheriffs
Office. But that was not her calling. She was born to
be an educator. She impacted numerous lives with
her creative, individualized teaching methods. She
loved teaching and her students loved her. Jackie
was a teacher for the Richmond County School
System for over twenty years. She taught at Sego
Middle, Glenn Hills Middle, and Terrace Manor
Elementary. She tutored for the Boys and Girls
Clubs, and worked with Upward Bound students at
Paine College.

Jackie was baptized by Reverend N.T. Young at an
early age. From early childhood, she had been active
in church. Her upbringing and strong faith not only
made her loving and confident, but it also gave her
the patience and wisdom that she needed to rear her
two beautiful children, Katerra and Christopher, as
a single mother.
Jackie's union with Eddie, her loving husband, is
exemplified in Song of Solomon 3:4. "I have found
the one whom my soul loves. She enjoyed spending
time with her grandchildren, shopping and watching
TV courtroom dramas. Jackie would light up any
room when she entered. She was an example of a
Good Samaritan and had a great sense of humor.
She will be lovingly remembered by: husband,
Eddie Makin; daughter, Katerra (Keith Jr.) Godbee;
son, Christopher Philpott; stepdaughters, Leandra
(Jonathan) Smallwood and Shauna (Carl III) Makin-
Thornton; mother, Louise and stepfather Edward
Beasley; father, Johnny (Martha) Smith; mother-
in-law, Vivian Makin; stepsisters, Lanita (Steven)
Lowery, Melanie Johnson, Jasmine Smith, Sonya
Johnson, Alechia (Bermon) Beasley-Norwood, and
Cynthia (Norman) Reynolds; stepbrother, Marquitis
Owens; grandchildren, Nadeyah J. Gore, Christina
A. Makin, Bryson K. Godbee, Furiosa S. Smallwood
and Carl L. Thornton, IV; and a host of aunts, uncles,
cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that
will truly miss her.
