George A. and Mary

\
Let not your heart be troubled:
ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Fathers house are many mansions:
if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you.
And, if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again, and receive you unto myself;
that where I am, there ye may be also.
We are deeply grateful to all of our friends and neighbors
who have been so kind and thoughtful during these
hours, days, and weeks of sorrow. Your calls, cards,
prayers, and acts of kindness have afforded us the
strength and inspiration to face this day. Please accept
our thanks to each of you for all you have done.

Mrs. Mary H. Mackey was born to John Hughes and Magdalene
Ladavezes on December 24, 1924 in Augusta, Georgia. She
graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and
attended Paine College in Augusta. Mary was the widow of
George A. Mackey, a Jacksonville, FL native who passed away
on November 11, 2003 during their 57th year of marriage. She
retired in 1986 from the Duval County Public School System in
Jacksonville after 23 years of dedicated service. Mary was a
long-time member of St. Pius V Catholic Church. In 2015, she
moved to Altamonte Springs, FL, where she resided until her
death of natural causes on December 11, 2017.
A quiet, soft-spoken, and extremely caring woman, Mary was
devoted to her family, church, and community. She enjoyed her
work life (and, eventually, a long retirement), as well as
interacting regularly with relatives and friends garnered over
many decades. Mary was a loving wife, mother, and (great)
grandmother who took advantage of every opportunity to be a
giver to anyone in need.
A giver even in death, Mary chose to donate her body to the
University of Florida College of Medicine so that aspiring
doctors might benefit from the chance to learn about her
physical life, to advance their research, and to expand their
medical knowledge.
Mary was a gentle spirit and a friend to all. She will be missed
dearly by everyone who knew her.
Mary is survived by her sons: Bernard A. Mackey (Orlando, FL)
and David W. Mackey (Tampa, FL); grandson, Justin P. Mackey
(Krystina),; and great grandson and great granddaughter,
Vaughn N. and Kyra L. Mackey (Tampa, FL).
Mary is survived also by caring nieces and nephews: Pearl
Mackey, Kathy Dukes and Bernice Greer (Augusta, GA), Judith
R. Sullivan (Falls Church, VA), The Honorable James P. Sullivan
(Brooklyn, NY), and William H. Hughes (Malaysia); grand
nieces and nephews: Michelle D. Brooks (Reuben), Lisa Carey
(Curtis), Debbie Mackey and Veda Mackey, Victoria Wu (Falls
Church, VA), Andrea Dukes and Brigitt Mann (Augusta, GA),
Samantha Hughes (Malaysia), Gei'ald Mackey, Albert Mackey
Jr., Mitch Gregory, Malik Sullivan and Christopher Sullivan
(Brooklyn, NY), and Marlon (Tony) Dukes (Keisha, St.
Augustine); a devoted cousin, Eleanor Jones, other relatives,
several godchildren, and a host of friends.

LITURGY OF THE WORD
In the Liturgy of the Word, we hear Christ, the Word-made-flesh.
The readings, which proclaim the paschal mystery, seek to convey
the hope of being gathered together in Gods heavenly kingdom.
Above all, the scriptures tell us of Gods design for a world in which
suffering and death will relinquish their hold on all whom God has
called his own, for they belong to His Son, who is victorious over sin
and death.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST
Having been nourished at the table of Gods Word, the community
now turns to nourishment from the table of the Eucharist. Here the
priest sacramentally offers, in the name of all who have gathered,
the sacrifice of the New Covenant in which the death and
resurrection of Christ is remembered. The community then partakes
of the Holy Eucharist, a foretaste of eternal life at the banquet
table of heaven.
