To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven...
A Time to be Born: (Ecclesiastes 3:2)
Mrs. Anna Lee Roberts Lodge, the youngest child of the late Mr. Hamp and Mrs. Mozella
Daniels Roberts, was bom on August 21, 1930 in Valdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia. A
beautiful, sweet-spirited and happy child, Anna was doted on by her older brothers and sisters.
Her position as the baby of the family ensured that she would always be special.
A Time to Plant: (Ecclesiastes 3:2)
Annas formative years were spent at Mt. Vienna Church School, a school and church built
on land donated by her great-grandfather, Bristol Daniels. After graduating from Lowndes
County Training School, she matriculated to Fort Valley State College.
At a church revival in August 1947, Anna accepted Christ as her Savior and joined her family
church, Mt. Vienna AME. The souls won during that summer revival resulted in the creation
of Class No. 5. As a member of that newly formed class, Anna learned about and worked in
all aspects of the church.
A Time to Love: (Ecclesiastes 3:8)
While attending Fort Valley State College where she held the coveted title, Miss Peach
Blossom and subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Anna met
the love of her life, Herman Lodge. In September 1953 on her parents front porch with family
and neighbors in attendance, she and Herman were married. To this union, one child, Terri
Patrice, was bom.
A Time to Build Up: (Ecclesiastes 3: 3)
After her marriage, Anna began a teaching career that spanned more than thirty years. She
taught the children of Burke County who attended McKenney Branch School, Waynesboro
High and Industrial School, Blakeney Elementary, and Waynesboro Elementary. After her
retirement, she taught Adult Literacy classes at Mt. Olive AME Church.
Annas contributions and service to the community were many and varied. After moving to
Waynesboro, she joined Mt. Olive AME Church where she was a member of Class No. 2, the
Steward Board, President of the Stewardess Board, Director of Christian Education, Sunday
School Teacher for beginners and primary classes, local, area, and conference Womens Mis-
sionary Societies, senior choir, and Silver Sister of the Augusta Conference Womens Mis-
sionary Society. She also held memberships in the Burke County Improvement Association,
The Sapphirettes, Burke County Branch NAACP, Burke County Retired Educators Associa-
tion, Burke County Black Coalition Historian and Pageant Committee, Fort Valley State Uni-
versity Alumni Association, Historic Preservation, Voter Education and Registration Advo-
cate, life member of Georgia Client Council, Sunday School Union of Burke County Teacher,
Past Worthy Matron -New Aurora Chapter # 60, Order of Eastern Star, and Past President of
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 270.
A Time for Honor: (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
Anna was honored by her community for service rendered to the citizenry of Burke County.
She was the recipient of the Burke County Black Beacon Award, Hattie S. Bessent Youth
Chapter #118 Leadership Award, Eastern Star of the Year Award, and Hedges and Highways
Ministries Lifetime Achievement Award.
A Time to Weep: (Ecclesiastes 3:4)
In February 2005, Annas beloved husband, Herman, preceded her in death. Her siblings,
Della Roberts Robinson, Dampier Roberts, Bobby Roberts, Louie Roberts, Willie Roberts,
Charlie Roberts, Allen Roberts, Lonnie Roberts, Estella Roberts Carter, Leroy Roberts, Rich-
ard Roberts, Willie Beatrice Marshall, Tommie Lee Roberts Holmes, and Artis Roberts also
preceded her.
A Time to Die: (Ecclesiastes 3:2)
Jesus, Lover of my soul, Let me to Thy bosom fly, Hide me, O my Savior hide, Till the storm
of life is past; Safe into the haven guide, O receive my soul at last.
-Charles Wesley
On June 14, 2012 at Trinity Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, God called Anna Lee Roberts
Lodge home, transitioning her from time back into eternity.
A Time to Mourn: (Ecclesiastes 3:4)
Cherishing her memory are her daughter Terri L. (Marvin) Kelly; son, Sherman (Mary)
Lodge; grandchildren, Marquette Kelly, ZoeSwanna McGee, Kyle A. Lodge, Melissa Lodge,
Terry Lodge, and Julia Amoderas; great-grandchild, Payton Faith Lodge; Sister-In-Law, Cora
Lee Lodge, and Brother-In-Law, Sammie Lee Jones, also, a host of nieces, nephews, and other
sorrowing relatives and friends.

When I moved 40 years ago to Quaker Road now Herman Lodge Blvd. I met Mrs. Anna Lodge, from the first
day that I met her, she has never changed. When I broke my ankle, I did not know how I was going to eat.
She brought me food everyday until I could do for myself. She really was an angel right here on earth. She
will be missed.

The Lady who represents Many Significant Firsts In My Life
Upon entering school for the first time as a first-grader, I encountered a lady who was beginning her first year
in the education profession as a first-grade teacher. Her first impression upon me became a lasting one. Mrs.
Anna Lodge came to Blakeney Elementary School with young, bright ideas and great expectations (making a
difference in the lives of the students she taught). Among her many desires and accomplishments as an edu-
cator, was the creation of a ballet team, which consisted of eight girls.
Wow!!!! What a cultural shock to me and the other girls who made up this prestigious group. Were we excit-
ed? Absolutely!!! Within months, we were on our way to fame or so we thought. During those days our par-
ents could not afford the necessary items we needed for school let alone a tutu or ballerina shoes. However,
that was not going to stop Mrs. Lodge. Guess what? She, along with the other first grade teachers, took the
burden of paying for these items upon themselves so we could participate and experience things that we
thought was only possible in our dreams.
On weekends, I stayed with her. She taught me how to love others, care about others and give unconditional-
ly to others. By taking time to spend with me beyond the school day or week, Mrs. Lodge made me feel spe-
cial, and her nurturing spirit will never be forgotten. From that year on, Mrs. Lodge would always refer to me
as my baby, and I always referred to her as my first grade teacher.
Mrs. Lodge, your spirit will continue to live on in the lives of the many students you have taught and touched
down through the years. You have fought a good fight, so rest and receive your just reward.
Your Baby,
Mary S. Bennett
My Friend
To know her is to love her. To some she was Anna, to some she was Mrs. Lodge, but for me, she was sis.
Anna was a life member of Georgia Clients Council Inc. She was a member when I became the lead chair.
She was a person, who would do anything she could for you, As a member of (GCC) she would do her part.
To my children they call her Auntie, so she is a friend, family, a sister, whatever we call her she would be
there. To her family keep praying that one day we will meet again.
Isabelle (Sis.) Harper
Mrs. Anna Lodge was a nice soft spoken person with a big heart, who would help you do anything she could.
She was a very, very good neighbor. I am going to miss her from putting notes in the doors when she could-
nt get you on the phone. We have been very good neighbors for 30 years and I am truly going to miss her.

Mrs. Anna Lodge has left us to go to her Heavenly Home. R.I.P. Auntie. Thanks for being there for me, you
knew my situation and you fought a good fight you and Jesus. My prayer is that I will be able to handle my-

Mrs. Lodge was my first grade and Sunday School teacher. All of my life, she has been near and dear to my
heart! She gave me a bridal shower along with a special china/tea set as a wedding present, which I still have
today. She was instrumental in providing me a scholarship when I attended Fort Valley State College. When
I came home, I couldnt wait to visit Mt. Olive AME Church to see her smiling face, calm demeanor and
warmth. We have spent lots of special time together and for all of lifes lessons and morethere is no way to
thank her for all she has imparted in my life. Life brings tears, smiles and memories. The tears dry, the smile
fades, but the memories live on forever! No matter how old we are, losing a love one is one of the deepest
sorrows a heart can know. But her goodness, caring, wisdom and legacy lives on. Though there are no words
to ease your pain, remember that she is now in heaven, in Gods loving arms where she is now at peace. My
deepest sympathy to you and your family!

I remember Auntie Ann, from when I was the in second grade. Every afternoon I would go to her classroom.
We rode home together everyday. Auntie is the type of person who is always helping others. As we got older
Kenneth and I would be in the back yard in the pool swimming or helping Auntie in the yard. Truly Auntie!!!
You're going to be missed by all the ones you have touched in your life time. Rest in peace! because I know
the angels in heaven are singing today. Love You Auntie!

Hon. Emanuel Larkin, Jr.
To the Beloved Family Members of Mrs. Anna Lodge,
We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and long time neighbor. It is a deep and per-
sonal loss as we shared so many meaningful and happy experiences. We have so many wonderful memories
that we will always treasure.
Anna was a beautiful, gentle, and caring person, conscientious in every endeavor. She took great pleasure in
creating a beautiful and comfortable home for her family and friends to enjoy. She was a leader and hard
worker in her profession of teaching, in the church, and in so many community organizations. She never hesi-
tated to serve wherever she was needed. And she stood by her husband, supporting and encouraging him as
he took on ever demanding roles of leadership in the community.
We hope that the many beautiful memories that you have will comfort you now and in the days ahead. We
are also comforted by the reassurance that the love that she shared with us will continue to live on in the many
lives that she touched. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we pray that God will
continue to comfort and bless you all.
With love and sympathy to you all,
Harold Stinson, Jr. and Constance Stinson
Aunt Anna
One who has touched so many lives as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, niece, cousin, teacher, mentor,
friend, supporter and a giver. A woman for us all to emulate. Even when her strength was waning she was
forever a comforter and supporter to our mother. May God Comfort her and give her Peace. As seasons are
forever changing, so are our lives; and now in everyone's heart her memory will go on living forever more in
the lives she has touched and changed.

I remember as a little girl at Mount Olive AME Church when I first learned the song Jesus Loves Me. I fell in
love with this song because my Sunday School teacher Mrs. Anna Lodge taught it to me. We would sing the
song together very often in Sunday School class and I would be so happy singing about Jesus and His Love.
Mrs. Lodge was one of many people that God placed in my life to teach, inspire, encourage, nurture, support,
discipline, and help to guide me on the right road to become the successful woman I am today. I will always
remember and cherish the memories of Mrs. A. Lodge, Mrs. W. "Tootsie" Jones, Mrs. R. Hunter, Mrs. I.
Dowers, and my grandmother Mrs. I. Broadus for instilling in me strong, Christian values and introducing me
to my first love, Jesus Christ.

Anna and I have been Sister-In-Law since 1948. She has been more than a Sister and a very true friend. Im
going to miss my Anna.
I have known Anna since I was 9 years old, she was a real Lady and a true friend. She was the Pilot and
was the Co-Pilot. When people saw us in the white Ford, they would say that is George and Anna.
In 1974, Mrs. Anna Lodge was my 1st grade teacher at Waynesboro Elementary School. I dont remember
my kindergarten teacher and I dont even remember who my 2nd grade teacher was! I distinctly remember
Mrs. Lodge because she was patient, caring, and extremely kind. You could tell she was happy with the
profession that she chose because she was genuine everyday in the classroom, but thats not the only reason
why I fell in love with Mrs. Lodge. For this woman of little stature was a true servant of God. She took the
time out her busy schedule to include my sister Marian and I in her church activities. Yes, she made Mount
Olive A.M.E. Church my 2nd church home. When I was not attending my home church, I was being pickec
up by Mrs. Lodge to go to Vacation Bible School, Choir practice, Bible Study, and my other activity
sponsored by her church. As I grew older, even as an adult, she never hesitated to greet me as Her Boy.
Ive always thanked God for Mrs. Lodge because she was my first example of how to love others and to help
those who are less fortunate than I am. If you look up earthly angel in the dictionary, there would be a picture
of Mrs. Anna Lodge right there next to the definition.
We knew that we were part of a large extended family because Aunt Anna embraced each of us in loving
care, and we knew that we also belonged to her. Aunt Anna gave a quiet reassurance when we faced
adolescent challenges and always guided us with her loving care. When we were children and times were
lard in our immediate family, Auntie always provided us with nourishment, willingly and lovingly. On rainy
days, she would come to our home and pick us up and drive us to school and to Sunday School, she was our
role model, never displaying anger and always providing us with an example of what it means to be a mature,
responsible person. We love Aunt Anna and knew that she practiced the art of giving from the heart. We
miss her and love her and will keep her in our hearts.
Mrs. Anna Lodge was a nice sweet person. She was a faithful missionary, known for her warm and genuine
smile. She was always willing to help everyone. Mrs. Lodge and I worked well together as a Stewardess and
on the Pastors Aid and Food Committee. One unique thing about her is that she always wanted things done
to perfection, because she wanted to give God her best. She will be dearly missed by everyone. To God Be
the Glory, for the great things He hath done!!!

In Tribute To MRS. ANNA R. LODGE
I was saddened to learn that the life of MRS. ANNA ROBERTS LODGE had come to a glorious close. She
was truly a woman of great resilience and quiet strength. Synonymous for decades with Education,
Community Service, family and certainly, the African Methodist Episcopal Church, I first encountered Mrs.
Lodge at an early age at Mount Olive AME Church in Christian Education where I was a member of her
Sunday School Class, and later she would serve as an advisor to me and others in the YPD (Young Peoples
Division).
Mrs. Lodge was an excellent role model for children and adults alike. She exhibited Christ-like qualities that
won her great admiration and respect. She always greeted her brothers and sisters with a smile, warm embrace
or handshake. I witnessed her love for her fellow man and found her to be consistentshe never had a harsh
word to say and always maintained a pleasing demeanor and personality.
A servant among servants, Mrs. Lodge worked in her church preparing Communion as a missionary, cared for
the upkeep of the physical church as a Steward, and uplifted the spiritual church by serving in the choir. She
exemplified the Proverbs 31 womanwhatever her hands found to do, she did! A community servant, Mrs.
Lodge cared for the needs of her community by working to promote a better quality of life for citizens of
Burke County and the State of Georgia, working tirelessly by her husbands sidea help mate and confidant.
A noted philosopher penned the phrase, its not what a man takes with him, but what he leaves behind that
defines greatness! Mrs. Lodge leaves behind a great legacy of love for God and family, service to
community and to mankind.
May the God of all comfort sustain us and keep us, and may we keep, always at the fore front, the life, minis-
try and great legacy of MRS. ANNA ROBERTS LODGE.

Anna. A True Friend
After I moved to Waynesboro, one of the dear friends I met was Anna, who was a bundle of joy and made me
feel at home. We both taught school for many years, and even when Anna had to discipline a student, it was
always with a loving heart. I always thought it hurt her more than her student. Anna was a positive person
and Ill always remember her as A True Friend.

left are many and will forever live in our hearts. Well done a good and faithful servant, your steadfastness
says it all. The work you have done has spoken for you.

As A Neighbor
I Anna R Lodge was my dear friend first, as well as a wonderful neighbor, a dedicated club sister, and a sup-
portive colleague. She was one who knew all of her neighbors. She would give generously too many who
were in need. She was concerned, caring, and sharing. Once she knew you were ill, she would be there to see |

beautiful smile, pleasing personality and her sweet, sweet spirit.

I Mrs. Anna R. Lodge, my friend and neighbor. She was loving, kind, and a very nice lady. You know the
measure of a person is not how great their faith is but how great their love is. Now these three remain Faith,

By this we know that we are one in Him. 1 John 2:5

have been there for each other during times of hurt and offered each other strength during times of loss.
We have watched each other change and grow in so many different ways, celebrating each other s accom-

things wed dare to tell anyone else...
You were the best friend and aunt any person could have. I now you knew in your heart how much that
friendship meant to me. My aunt, sister, and friend. I love you and will miss you always.

Mrs. Lodge fulfilled Gods purpose and encouraged everyone she came in contact with. As young children,
my siblings and I walked to Mt. Olive A.M.E. church every Sunday. There to greet us was one of our Sunday
School teachers, Mrs. Lodge. She always had a beautiful smile on her face as she welcomed us through the
doors. One of my memorable moments was when Mrs. Lodge asked me to be the chairperson of a program.
She already knew that I was one that will in the background, but shy away from the forefront. However, it
was customary that the chairperson make the final remarks. Once again, I thought she would make the re-
marks for me. Yet, this particular time she refused, and encouraged me to do it. She said Write it all down
on paper, and read it or memorize it. After you do it a few times, it will get easier. I fol owed her instruc-
tions and this was a turning point in my life - out of my comfort zone. I love her and will treasure her en-
