Reverend George C. Miller, III - Pastor/Teacher (Officiating)
Burrel Lanham III, affectionately known as (Big Chief) by his family and
friends, was bom the first child to the late Burrel Lanham II, and Louise
Merriweather Lanham. He attended public school in Augusta, Ga Later
entering into the U. S. Army during World War II, he received a Bronze
Star for his service. After his time of service, he worked professionally as
a Brick Mason. He was well known for his superior mason art skills and
work ethics. He worked hard designing several brick Bar-b-que grills for
family and friends from Georgia to California.
He was united in marriage with the late Mrs. Louise Broadwater Lanham,
and the union lasted forty-two years. From this union they were gifted with
nine children. Mr. Lanham's favorite hobby was fishing as when he was
not working, you were sure to find him on the lake, or river fishing. His
worse experience fishing came when he once fell out the boat while fishing
and vowed to "never", get into another boat again. He continued his hobby
from the banks where his passion for fishing remained near and dear to
his heart.
He believed in God and attended religious services throughout his life,
serving the Lord at several local churches, both as a young man a husband
and a parent as he instilled a religious belief in all his children. He last
joined Elim Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until his health
began to decline.
While seeking medical attention at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing
Home our beloved stepped across the threshold we call "Death", but it was
only a step into another room and not as stepping from the fellowship of
"Life". It was stepping into one of the other rooms of our "Father's house.
Those whose lives he has brightened and fulfilled, must continue on
without him. Five sons, Linell, Burrel IV, Crosby (Eloisa), Clyde and
Michael (Connie) Lanham, four daughters, Martha (Johnnie Frank) Moore,
Julia (Marshall) Utley, Patricia Blocker, and Janie Reid. One brother
Carsevelt Lanham, one sister Martha Tillie, a sister-in-law Dorothy
Lanham, one uncle Lawrence Merriweather, three aunts Estell Dixon,
Georgia Pugh and Jeanette Merriweather, a host of grandchildren, great
grandchildren, great great grandchildren, great great great grandchildren
and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends whom
he most loved and cherished.
"He has gone but not forgotten,
to the heavenly home above
some sweet day we long to meet him
and share his infinite love".

To my dearest family
"a piece of my heart"
My heart is divided into pieces, and a part belongs to each of
you. Please remember that - - always, no matter what you go
through. There's joy in knowing that the heart plays a part in
how a person touches you, it's wonderful to be guided by
something so real, so loving so sincere, so true. So take a
piece of my heart with you, and even though we are apart, in
a special way - - I'll always be with you, for each of you own a
piece of my heart.
