Some of these days life will be brighter
Some of these days our burdens will be lighter,
Some of these days
Some of these days joy bells ringing
Some of these days sweetly singing
Some of these days
Life is real, life is earnest. Solomon has said,
The half has not been told, but these things were never spoken of the soul.
Born, to the late Willie Thomas Jones and Ethel Davis Jones on
September 12, 1921 in Waynesboro (Burke County), Georgia,
Willie James Jones was given strong principles by which to live and
taught how to fear and trust in God. He was the oldest of six
children, two of whom preceded him in death, Mary Jones Williams
and Margaret Jones Lester.
At an early age, Willie accepted Christ as his personal Lord and
Savior, and was baptized at Elim Baptist Church by the late
Reverend Robert Lewis Boyd where he remained completely and
fully committed. As an adolescent, Willie treasured his parentage and
acquired lofty values and maintained personal integrity; excelling in
every component of his life.
As regards his educational acquisition, Willie enjoyed the parochial
education to which he was exposed. As a young man, Willie fell
deeply in love with Bertha Key, and the two lovers were joined in
Holy Matrimony on September 1, 1939. Unlike many other couples,
Willie and Bertha were happily married for SEVENTY Golden years!
To this happy union, three children were born, one of which
(Ernest) preceded him in death. However, Boykin and Audrey, both
of whom treasured each other, went through their human growth
and development as if they were twins.
Willie served his country by joining the United States Navy during
World War II. He served mankind as a United States Civil Service
Employee at the Veterans Administration Hospital - Lenwood
Division. Upon retirement from public service, he was very
supportive of his wife, as a baker and bartender in catering services.
On October 7, 2009, God dispatched a very special angel to come
down to the Charlie Norwood Veterans Administration Hospital and
the angel gave Willie his wings so that he could fly to his eternal
place of rest. God only takes the best.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife, Mrs. Bertha Key
Jones; one son, Mr. Willie Boykin (Mildred) Jones of Augusta,
Georgia; one daughter, Dr. Audrey Jones (Isaac) Wood of Augusta,
Georgia; sisters, Mrs. Edna Jones McKie of Augusta, Georgia, Mrs.
Ethel Jones Adams of Amityville, New York and Mrs. Betty Jones
Brown of Augusta, Georgia; grandchildren, Isaac Xavier Wood
of Nashville, Tennessee, Boykin Broderick (Tanya) Jones of Roswell,
Georgia, Tiffany Wood of College Park, Georgia, Judith Vonetta
Jones of Augusta, Georgia; one great grandson, Eric Jones of
Roswell, Georgia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins church
family and friends.
