TRIBUTE
You know that you are loved when you are claimed by two sisters as their very own and both are
proud to call you Son. Manuel lovingly referred to his birth mother as Mother and his other
mom as Mama. He loved both dearly and they knew it.
Manuel was called home to be with the Lord and entered into eternal rest on July 22, 2017, at his
home in Indianapolis, Indiana. He had notable and exceptional qualities about himself in so many
ways. He was extremely family oriented and loved to be in the presence of family and friends. It
showed in his speech and his actions. Manuel always had a kind word or joke just to make you
smile. His incredible spirit blessed all those who came in contact with him.
Manuel was born February 12, 1967 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Three months later he relocated to
Augusta, Georgia. At an early age, he joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church, where he attended
faithfully and served in various capacities in the church.
Manuel was educated in Richmond County Georgia schools and attended and graduated from A.
R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet High School. After graduating, he attended
Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. Having acquired a love for people, he majored
in Psychology and minored in Political Science. He also received a Masters Degree in Mental
Counseling from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana.
By profession, Manuel worked at Gibault Care, Inc. as a Supervisor of Clinical Services and as a
Master Licensed Mental Counselor in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was also a Certified Sexual Abuse
Youth Clinician (CSAYC) for twenty years. Manuel valued and enjoyed the opportunity to work
with adolescents and their families. He helped them to create a life of stability and an environment
that consisted of family and unity.
Manuel had a great love for his grandmother who preceded him in death, Mrs. Julia Jennings.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving mother, Eddie Ruth Jennings; his mama, Selfie Lee

From Manuel to Mother
(I GAVE THESE WORDS TO YOU ON A PLAQUE WHEN I WAS TWELVE YEARS OLD)
Ip a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn. If a child lives with hostility, he learns to
fight. If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be shy. If a child lives with shame, he learns to feel
guilty. If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient. If a child lives with encouragement,
he learns confidence. If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate. If a child lives with
FAIRNESS, HE LEARNS JUSTICE. If A CHILD LIVES WITH SECURITY, HE LEARNS TO HAVE FAITH. If A CHILD LIVES
WITH APPROVAL, HE LEARNS TO LIKE HIMSELF. IF A CHILD LIVES WITH ACCEPTANCE AND FRIENDSHIP, HE LEARNS
TO FIND LOVE IN THE WORLD. - THANK YOU MOTHER
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
When tomorrow starts without me, And Im not here to see.
If the sun should rise and find your eyes, filled with tears for me;
I WISH YOU wouldnt CRY THE WAY YOU DID TODAY,
While thinking of the many things, we didnt get to say.
I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LOVE ME, AS MUCH AS I LOVE YOU,
And EACH TIME THAT YOU THINK OF ME, I KNOW YOULL MISS ME TOO.
When tomorrow starts without me, dont think were far apart;
For every time you think of me, Im right there in your heart.
We, the family, wish to express sincere thanks and gratitude for every act of kindness, word of encouragement,
and love shown to us during this time of bereavement. May God continuously and richly bless each and every one
of you.
- Proverbs 22:6 -
From Mother to Manuel, I love you and Ill miss you.
