Obituary
Mr. Richard Lee Hill was bom in Augusta, Georgia on April 17, 1951 and
entered into eternal rest on February 19, 2006.
He was educated in Richmond County Schools. He attended Augusta State
College for some post secondary education.
Richard was a faithful and dedicated professional who began his career in
State Government serving the troubled youth of Georgia December 1971 and
continued until he retired June 2004. His entire career was dedicated to the
youth and staff at the Augusta Youth Development Center and his coworkers
in Training for the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. He was so
dedicated and committed he agreed to come out of retirement and work for
the Department for seven months as a Protection from Harm Specialist.
Richard held many positions during his career starting as a Janitor in 1971,
being a youth worker, moving up the ranks to become a Cottage Life
Supervisor, Assistant Director of Cottage Life Services, to the Director of
Cottage Life Services, to the Director of the Intensive Care Unit. May 1997,
Richard moved from direct care services to taking his twenty-six years of
experience to the classroom when he became a Staff Development Training
Coordinator 2. He was then in a position to better mold, mentor and develop
new and seasoned staff through training to carry on the legacy he exemplified
of providing the best services possible to the troubled youth the staff would
serve and to always remember to take care of each other in the journey.
The legacy Richard leaves with staff and his friends in the Georgia
Department of Juvenile Justice is to always let the joy from within show and
to never let any situation diminish that joy. He demonstrated this by the ever
present twinkle in his eyes, the smile he was so free in sharing, and the
uplifting conversations he had with his friends and peers. It was not possible
to be in his presence and not feel the joy he had. His positive outlook on life
always showed through regardless of the situation.
He is survived by a loving and devoted family; wife, Ann Akridge Hill-
children, Richard Hill, II, Toni Owens, Omar Akridge, Mykiba Akridge;
grandchildren, Damon, Antonio, Victor, Tania Owens; parents, Mr. & Mrs
Carlton and Amanda Wilson,; sisters, Inez Barnes; brothers, Bennie Hill

A Neighbors Love
My dear Friend, I cant believe he left us!! What are we going to do? I can
vividly remember the big smile when he says hello. How and where do we
begin the healing, its not going to be easy. We can take comfort in knowing that
God will take care of him now. I will miss him , my dear friend and neighbor. It
hurts so bad that he left us! God bless us! We have truly lost a wonderful person.
Your Neighbor,
Jeanette
The family of Mr. Richard Lee Hill wishes to express our deepest gratitude
for all acts of kindness during our time of sorrow. The prayers, calls, visits
and even just your thoughts of us was appreciated. Special thanks to all
people and families that traveled from afar, and the Elim family.
