SHIRLEY JOHNSON LEVALLE EVANS was born in Columbia County, Georgia to the late Webster and Bertha Mae
Johnson.
Awoman of strength is adorned with the beautyofGod'sgraceworking in her life.
Shirley gave her life to Christ at an early age at Rehoboth Baptist Church in Appling, GA. In her later years, she was a
devout member of St. Mark United Methodist Churchbu,t would find her church home at Macedonia Baptist Church,
where sheserved as a Deaconess.
She was educated in the Columbia County school system. When her family moved to Augusta, Shirley attended JohMn.
Tutt Junior High School, where she excelled at basketball and was crowned the school's very first, "Miss Tutt."
~ Awoman ofstrength is other-centered and sogives thevery best ofherself-- indeed, all she'sgot -- to everyone. Shirley went on to further her education and follow her lifelong passion of helping others by obtainihnegr License of
Practical Nursing from Augusta Technical College. She would also obtain her Associate Degree and later Bachelors of
Science as a Registered Nurse from the University of South Carolina, Aiken. Finally, Shirley would obtain her Masters _ :
Degree in Management from Southern Wesleyan University. Her passion for education and pursuit of excellence were also --
traits she instilled in her three daughters. __
During her illustrious career, Shirley shared her talents and commitment to helping others with University Hospital, _ Fisenhower Army Medical Center and the Charlie Norwood V.A. Medical Center. She retired from the V.A. Medical Center _ after a highly decorated 40-year career in nursing. During her tenure there, she served as Nurse Manager of the Alzheimer's and Dementia unit. The Veterans and their families became an extension of her family and she took pride in providing excellent care and coordinating dances and dinners for the vets and their spouses. During her career, she performed nearly 30 years of civil service with the United States Government and received numerous awards and accolades, including the
coveted SpiriotfNursing Award.
~-- Awoman ofstrengthprays daily and builds solid relationships to keep her soul in shape.
Shirley had a love of all things fabulous. She had an enviable collection of beautiful hats and impeccable sense of fashion.
She was a trendsetteevren, before trends were popular. Shirley was referred to as "The Hostess with the Mostess" amongst
family and friends, as she enjoyed hosting family dinners and gatherings at her home. She and her husband John also had an - :
affinity for travel and entertainmenta,s proven in the countless concerts and shows they attended together over the years and trips around the country. Shirley had utter adoration for her family and friends, a contagious sense of humor, extensive
knowledge of political news and fancy footwork that would dominate any dance floor or Soul Train line) She was a wife, :
daughter, mother, sister, friend, colleague and the role she revered most, Matriarch of her extended family. _
A woman of strength has open arms. --

Shirley will be greeted and guided by many departed loved ones, including her dear son-in-law, Hosea Heard.
A woman of strength builds a legacy. Shehas thefaittho know thatitis through life's journey -- with all of its ups and downs - thatshewill
become strong andfully live hervocation whether single, married, or as a consecrated religious, in the midst ofthe modern world.
- She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband John Willie Evans Jr.; Three adoring daughters, Sabrina (Anthony) :
