Obituary
The Beginning:
Larry Donald Curry was born January 25,1954 in Augusta, Georgia to the
late Arthur Curry and Magnolia Ivey Curry.
He departed this life on October 13, 2018 at Hillcrest Hospital, Mayfield,
Ohio. It was a peaceful transition.
Larry was enrolled in the Richmond County School System, where he was
very active in sports. He played on the baseball and basketball teams and
very deservingly earned the nickname of Lightning, which stuck with him
all of his life.
A Time To Rejoice:
Larry accepted Jesus Christ at a very young age at Greater Mt. Cannan
Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. He served on several youth ministries
there and attended church services regularly with his family. Larry fostered
his personal relationship with God daily and served God the rest of his life.
Living A Life:
Upon his graduation Larry had a strong desire to relocate and join other
family members in Cleveland, Ohio. The journey began and he immediately
sought out a new church home and joined the Second Tabernacle
Missionary Baptist Church. Larry worked and served on lany ministries
and diligently served God.
Larry received his Certificate of Ordination from Deacons by laying on the
hands of the Elders, as Deacon of the Second Tabernacle Baptist Church
on December 16,1984 under the leadership of Rev. Ernest Washington Jr.
he held this position with great pride, dedication ar.d a strong commitment
to God until he was called home.
Shortly after relocating to Cleveland, Ohio he obtained work. His first
employment in Cleveland did not pan out, so he began seeking other
i
N
opportunities. He was blessed with the opportunity of being employed at
the Republic Steel Company, which was purchased by LTV Steel some
years later. He retired a first time after more than 30 years of service. He
returned to work after his retirement at the request of Arcelor Mittal,
USA. Larry retired a second time with 40 years of service. He was a very
dedicated hard working man.
Leaving His Legacy:
Larrys first child was born April 30,1976 and was lovingly named Shantina
Curry, whom preceded him in death. Several years later he was joined in
holy matrimony to Shanavorn Evans. To this union two sons were born:
Larry Jr. and Evan.
Larry met his present spouse Cheryl Lane the year of 2006. They were
joined in marriage February 14, 2016. She remained by his side until his
departure from his life.
Pleasures On This Side:
Larry loved to bowl, golf, shop, travel, dance and eat good food. He always
extended his friendship and never met a stranger. He would talk with
anyone with a listening ear and this earned him the nickname of Motor
Mouth by his co-workers of many years whom has remained by his side
throughout his illness, thank you. He loved life and family. He was never
shy about professing his love for Christ Jesus to anyone.
The Departure:
He leaves to cherish his memory loving wife Cheryl L. Curry, children:
Larry Curry Jr. (Fiance Naima), Evan Curry (Sharon), two step-children:
Damon Lane, Carmen Lane, grandchildren: Alaysia, Ariana, Zhane,
LaVone, Layla, Shamar, Kallel, Austin, Kayla, Jaida, Jiana, Jena, Simone,

When Storms Arise
Paul Laurence Dunbar
When storms arise
And dark'ning skies
About me threat'ning lower,
To Thee, OLord, I raise mine eyes,
To Thee my tortured spirit Dies
For solace in that hour.
The mighty arm
Will let no harm
Come near me nor befall me,
Thy voice shall quiet my alarm,
Men life's great battle waxeth warm -
No foeman shall appall me.
Upon thy breast
Secure I rest,
From sorrow and vexation
No more by sinful cares oppressed.
But in thy presence ever blest,
God of my salvation.
(0 take me home to rest).
Humbly Submitted,
The Family
The Measure of Man
Not How did he die? But How did he live?
Not What did he gain? But What did he give?
Not What was his station? But Had he a heart?
And How did he play his God given part?
Not What was his shrine? Not What was his creed?
But Had he befriended those really in need?
Not What did the piece in the newspaper say?
But How many were sorry when he passed away?
Was he ever ready with a word or good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.
Rest in peace my dear husband,
Love Cheryl
