You fought a good fight, you finished your course. You kept the
faith. What's left? There is laid up for you a croum of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give you on that day.
C^rs. gcan ^foncfeff eJhompfcms thrown, was born
on August 14,1935, to the late Mr. Walter and Mrs. Gladys
Thompkins. She was one of six brothers and two sisters.
She was the oldest sister. She departed this life on Fri-
day, February 2,2001. She attended the public schools of
Richmond County, Georgia and graduated from Lucy
Craft Laney High School.
At an early age, she joined Elim Baptist Church in the Sand
Hill Community of Augusta, Georgia. She served faith-
fully as a member of the Church Choir, Sunday School,
BTU and Secretary until she moved to New York City.
In 1966, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Joscelyn
Brown.
In addition to her mother and father, three brothers pre-
ceded her in death, Nathaniel, Vander, and Willie Walter.
She leaves to mourn her passing: her husband, Mr.
Joscelyn Brown; three brothers, Rev. Raymond H.
Thompkins, North Augusta, SC; Mr. Willard (Vivian)
Thompkins and Mr. John (Sarah) Thompkins, all of Au-
gusta, GA; one sister, Mrs. Mattie R. (George) Williams,
Killeen, TX; two foster sisters, Mrs. Mary Helen (Leroy)
Butler, Augusta, GA and Ms. Gladys Brooks, Brooklyn,
NY; one aunt, Ms. Dorothy Williams; and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
