MRS. RUBY ODOM BENNETT went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2019. She was born September 11,
1921, in Barnwell County to Sallie Gant Odom and Aaron Odom.
She was baptized at an early age at Ned Branch Baptist Church and became a member and served on the
Usher Board at Saint Thomas Grove Baptist Church in Dunbarton, South Carolina under the leadership
of the Reverend Abraham Dunbar. In 1941, she became a member of First Providence Baptist Church in
North Augusta, South Carolina, under the leadership of Reverend D. E. Jennings, where she also served
on the Usher Board and was a secretary. Later in 1968, she became a member of Moses Baptist Church
under the leadership of Reverend R.B. Bush. Ruby sung on the Senior Choir, R.B. Bush choir, served as
secretary of the Missionary Society, and the Senior Enhancement Program. She loved her church and
pastor.
She attended Four Mile Elementary and High School in Dunbarton, South Carolina and graduated from
Lucy C. Laney High School in Augusta, Georgia.
She worked at E.I. Dupont (Westinghouse Savannah River Plant), North Augusta Grammar School, and
Medical College of Georgia, where she retired in 1985, after years of service as a Lab Technician.
She was an active member of the East Augusta Neighborhood Association, Teachers Retirement
Organization, and Senior Citizens group on Aiken Street, Augusta, Georgia.
Ruby was united in holy matrimony on March 31, 1940, to Tom Bennett, Sr., and to this union, four
children were born: Sallie V. Bennett (Lurie), Brooklyn, New York, Carolyn Bennett, Rosalyn B. Sapp
and Tom A. Bennett, Augusta, Georgia.
She was affectionately called Mama Ruby by many and showed her love to everyone she encountered.
She enjoyed cooking, puzzle books and traveling. She had an essence about her that was sassy and
classy, and when it comes to stepping out, she did it with fashion! From her hats down to her shoes, she
was a true fashion expert. Her sense of style and fashion will always be remembered and respected.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Tom Bennett, parents, Sallie Gant Odom and Aaron Odom;
sisters, Erlene Coleman and Essie Mae Dunbar; her brother, Quillie Odom; and grandson, Tory Sapp.
She leaves to forever cherish her fond memories: children Sallie V. Bennett (Lurie) Brooklyn, New York,
Carolyn Bennett, Rosalyn B. Sapp and Deacon Tom A. Bennett, Augusta, Georgia; grandchildren, Gregory
Bennett (Lizzette), Rickisha Bennett, Brooklyn, New York, Tom Aaron Bennett, Jr., Augusta, Georgia
and Tammy Lewis, Hephzibah, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Gregory Bennett, Jr., Brooklyn, New York,

When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO SEE AND DO,
You mustnt tie yourself to me with too many tears,
But be thankful we had so many good years.
I GAVE YOU MY LOVE, AND YOU CAN ONLY GUESS
How MUCH YOUVE GIVEN ME IN HAPPINESS.
I THANK YOU FOR THE LOVE THAT YOU HAVE SHOWN,
But now it is time I traveled on alone.
So GRIEVE FOR ME A WHILE, IF GRIEVE YOU MUST,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It is only for a while that we must part,
So TREASURE THE MEMORIES WITHIN YOUR HEART.
I WONT BE FAR AWAY FOR LIFE GOES ON.
And if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you cant see or touch me, I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart, youll hear,
All my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you come this way alone,
Ill greet you with a smile and a Welcome Home.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Fathers house are many mansions: if it were not so,
I WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU. I GO TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR YOU.
And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I WILL COME AGAIN, AND RECEIVE YOU UNTO MYSELF; THAT WHERE I AM, THERE YE MAY BE ALSO.
