Dont grieve for me, for now Im free
Im following the path God has laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call
I TURNED MY BACK AND LEFT IT ALL
I COULD NOT STAY ANOTHER DAY
TO LAUGH, TO LOVE, TO WORK OR PLAY
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I FOUND peace at the end of the day.
The family sincerely thanks you for all your phone calls, your
wonderful words, expressions and consideration shown to
us during our time of bereavement. From the very depths
of our hearts, you are so deeply appreciated.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the
faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give meat that day: and not
to me only, hut unto all them also that love his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:7'8
The Celebration of Life for Sheila Cynthia Hightower
Allen has brought us together today to observe the life
and legacy of one that was loved by many. On Tuesday,
January 30, 2018, her candle of life began to flicker, grew
dim, and went out as those who loved her were gathered
around.
Sheila was born on July 29,1953, in San Antonio, Texas to
the late James T. and Eva Gwendolyn Hightower. To their
union, four children were born. One sibling preceded her
in death. Sheila was the oldest child. Although her father
was a career military man, she spent most of her life in
Augusta, Georgia.
Sheila graduated from Glenn Hills High School in 1971.
She spent her entire life in the field of education. Sheila
began working with adults at Martha Lester School in
1980. With the encouragement of her lead teacher, Estelle
Parkens and the Adult Education program director,
Frances Miles, Sheila found her calling.
After obtaining a Master of Education Degree from
Augusta College (now Augusta University), she became
the director of the Richmond County, Georgia Adult
Education program. This program was responsible for
running dual programs assisting adults with obtaining
high school diplomas as well as assisting adults to obtain
their GED. Under Sheilas leadership, the program was
recognized as being the best adult education program
in Georgia. As a result, she was recognized as being the
states most distinguished adult educator. There were
various programs put into place statewide during her
headship. One such program, the Eagle Award which
recognizes the states most outstanding student in adult
education programs throughout Georgia continues today
beyond her tenure.

Sheila, also, involved herself in things that were centered
on people. She enjoyed talking politics. Upon retiring
in 2013, she became a genealogist. She would devote
countless hours searching historical records. This
dedication led her to be able to find her ancestors. Sheila
was delighted when she would find her cousins and she
loved talking about her cousins and she loved talking to
anyone who would listen to her talk about her rich family
heritage.
Sheila and her family worshipped at Mount Calvary
Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. She loved her family
and her family loved her. Sheila was always surrounded
by the love of her nieces, nephews, grandchildren and
great grandchildren.
Sheila was united in holy matrimony to Benjamin Allen.
Their union was for forty-three years and was blessed to
have two sons and one daughter.
Though Sheila Cynthia Hightower Allen will be missed,
her legacy will live on in her family as well as the many lives
she touched. She is survived by: her husband, Benjamin;
sons, James Benjamin and Jamarcus Carrington, both of
Augusta, Georgia; daughter, Pamela Craighead of Atlanta,
Georgia; sisters, Pamela (Jerry) Reese and Shontel Lacey,
both of Augusta, Georgia; mother-in-law, Dorothy
Allen of Augusta, Georgia; sisters-in law, Earnestine
(Donald) Ivey of Atlanta, Georgia and Brenda Bethea of
Hephzibah, Georgia; brothers-in-law, Larry (Karlene)
Allen of Augusta, Georgia and Dosye (Yolanda) Allen of
Hephzibah, Georgia; and a host of grandchildren, great
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful
friends.
