OBITUARY
Our father knows what's best for us, so Why should we complain -- We always want the sunshine, But He knows there must be rain --
And rain it was on Sunday, October 28, 1990 when our Dearly Loved One Eugene Adams, Jr. departed this life from a room at St. Francis Hospital.
Reverend Eugene Adams, Jr. was born February 8, 1931 in Athens, Georgia to the late Eugene and Ella Ree Adams, Sr. He was the eighth of eight children.
"Gene" as he was affectionately called attended the public schools of Athens and Milledgeville, Georgia. He graduated from Carver High School of Milledgeville, Georgia. He accepted Christ at an early age, and worked faithfully until receiving the call to the ministry. At which time he furthered his education at Morris Brown College and Turner Theological Seminary.
He pastored the following churches: Assistant Pastor, St. Luke A.M.E. Church, New York, Ford and Zion A.M.E. Churches, Bainbridge, Georgia, Bethel and Allen Chapel A.M.E. Churches, Richland, Georgia, St. Mark A.M.E. Church, Columbus, Georgia, Antioch A.M.E. Church, Decatur, Georgia, Bethel A.M.E. Church, Augusta, Georgia and St. James A.M.E. Church, Columbus, Georgia. While pastoring at Bethel of Richland and St. Mark of Columbus he continued his studies at Columbus College.
Reverend Adams was very fond of children as all could see his jovial spirit serving as past President of the Stewart County PTA, Scout Master of Troop 171, Richland, Georgia and Troop #500 of Augusta, Georgia.
He served four years with the United States Air Force as an Aircraft Specialist. Reverend Adams was presently a member of the Interdenominational Alliance, Columbus, Georgia. He was a member of the Atlanta-North Georgia, Ministerial Alliance, Atlanta, Georgia. President of the UACMA, Augusta, Georgia. Member of the Board of Examiners, Augusta, Georgia Conference; delegate to the General Conference 1984 - Kansas City, Missouri: and in 1988 - Fort Worth, Texas. A model Christian, his influence will always be with us; such a life never dies. He leaves to mourn his loving devoted wife, Inora Adams, Columbus, Georgia; a loving caring daughter, Zina Maria Adams, Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Jewell Owens, Columbus, Georgia and Annie Byrd, Wooster, Ohio; one brother, Robert Adams, Cleveland, Ohio; a loving mother and father-in-law, Issac and Gena Jones, Richland, Georgia; ten sisters-in-law, seven brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, god children and friends.
Pastor Adams,
We wish we could say -- That we always knew you'd come along, But we didn't. We used to worry a lot. The world was brimming over with people, but they all had other things to do, and other people to be with. Back then we tried so anxiously to fit in with people who weren't right for us at all, Anymore than we were right for them, of course it never worked. Then one day you were quietly there in our lives, and gradually we relized what something in us had known all along; There really is a time and place for everything, you came to us when it was time, we talked, we shared, then we grew to love you. You gave us a chance to express ourselves and for that we will always grow, because you showed us how to love. We love you Pastor Adams. Most of all, we '11 miss the expressions you showed during the welcome song, "There's A Sweet Sweet Spirit".

Perhaps you sang a lovely song Or sat quietly in a chair Perhaps you sent a funeral spray If so we saw it there Perhaps you spoke the kindest words As any friends could say; Perhaps you were not there at all Just thought of us that day Whatever you did to console our hearts, We thank you so much whatever the part.
