- Description:
- Work Unit Conservationist J.C. Butler is seen monitoring rescuegrass planted amid kudzu to manage soil erosion in J.H. Marshall's farm in Evans, Georgia. The planting of kudzu both to manage soil erosion and for use as high-protein cattle fodder was recommended by the Soil Conservation Service until 1953. In 1970 it was listed as a weed, and in 1997 it was listed on the Federal Noxious Weed List. Photograph taken by Leon J. Sisk for the USDA Soil Conservation Service, now known as the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
