- Edwin Hoopes, Jr. was stationed at Fort Benning from 1939 until 1943 after he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1939. He was in the 1st Battalion, 83 Field Artillery. He taught school at Ft. Leavenworth and was sent to the Pacific.
