- Dr. Erwin and Dr. Stegeman were both in Emory medical school together during WWII. They both joined the service as privates while in medical school and had the Federal government pay for their education. Dr. Erwin was in Calvary ROTC at UGA. Both interned at Grady Hospital. Dr. Stegeman stayed state side during WWII while Dr. Erwin went to the Army ski school in Germany. The participants of the Nuremberg trials visited the school during the trials.
