The Neighborhood Arts Center hosts an exhibition of the work of visual artist and African American activist Romare Bearden. Romare Bearden and his wife Nanette Bearden visited the Neighborhood Arts Center March 22-23, 1978 to attend opening events for the exhibit. On March 22, Bearden spoke to the Neighborhood Arts Center staff about his work. The next day, around 600 people attended the opening reception for the exhibit.
