Visual artist and African American activist Romare Bearden (front) and his wife, dancer and choreographer Nanette Bearden (back left), with Neighborhood Arts Center poet-in-residence Jim Lee (back center), assistant director Kerry Price (back right), director John Riddle (right) and an unidentified Neighborhood Arts Center student. The Beardens visited the Neighborhood Arts Center March 22-23, 1978 to attend opening events for an exhibit of Bearden's art at the center. On March 22, Bearden spoke to the Neighborhood Arts Center staff about his work. The next day, around 600 people attended the opening reception for the exhibit.
