- "Attiya Melton with Zenzele's daughter during the National Conference of Artis (NCA) at the NAC."--from Jim Alexander's annotations.
Atlanta ceramics artist Attiya Melton smiles while holding the sleeping daughter of Zenzele, a Neighborhood Arts Center artist-in-residence, during the National Conference of Artists' twentieth anniversary conference at the Neighborhood Arts Center in Atlanta on March 23, 1978. The National Conference of Artists supports African American art and culture. During its twentieth anniversary conference, it also held workshops at the Neighborhood Arts Center in silkscreen, portfolios, audio-visual art, health hazards, and "Afro-Raku" ceramic firing. Melton became a Neighborhood Arts Center artist-in-residence in ceramics in February 1979 and left in October 1980 to teach in private schools. Zenzele worked on arts and crafts at the Neighborhood Arts Center until December 1979 when she left with her husband Dumasani to open a natural foods restaurant in Atlanta called "Here and Now."
