- Postcard (tinted halftone, 3 ½ x 5 ½ inches) titled – Winthrop, Me. Main Street. This postcard shows Main Street in Winthrop, Me. around 1910. First called Pondtown for its lakes and ponds, it was settled by Timothy Foster in 1765. On April 26, 1771, Pondtown Plantation was incorporated by the Massachusetts General Court as Winthrop, named for the first colonial governor of Massachusetts, John Winthrop. Postage affixed: green Franklin one cent stamp. Postmarked October 22, 1907 North Monmouth, Maine. Card number 25214. Printed in Germany.
