- Description:
- Postcard (color, linen texture, divided back, 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches) titled Pirate’s Alley, New Orleans, La. - The storied row in New Orleans’ Jackson Square, was originally built as a passageway through the French Quarter, and was said to have been occupied by Andrew Jackson, Jean Lafitte and William Faulkner. It was actually an alley on the “Uptown” side of the cathedral (between the church and the Cabildo). The name was formalized “The Pirates Alley” in 1964. Text on reverse: Pirate’s Alley extends for one block from Royal Street to Chartres Street. Through this alley way pirates were taken to the Cabildo Jail. It is also known as Old Orleans Alley and separates the Cabildo from Old St. Louis cathedral. “New Orleans – America’s Most Interesting City” Card number 7A –H965.
