- Description:
- Postcard (color, divided back, 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches) featuring a street view of the Georgia's old Governor's Mansion completed in 1839. The building served as the official residence of Georgia's governors from 1839 - 1868. When the capital of Georgia moved to Atlanta, the mansion was abandoned. It later became the founding building of Georgia Normal & Industrial College. It is said to be one of the finest examples of High Greek Revival architecture. A major restoration began in 2001. It now serves as a historic house museum. Text on reverse: "The Mansion", formerly occupied by the governors of Georgia, now the residence of Georgia State College for Women Presidents. An architect has stated, "you will not find a more perfect gem of architecture in the state." - Milledgeville, Georgia. Card number S15963.
