- Postcard (color, linen textured, divided back, 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches) titled: A – 17 U. S. Post Office, Atlanta Ga. featuring a pictorial representation of the future Post Office. "Originally the main U.S. Post Office for Atlanta, the building was constructed in 1933 as part of a Depression-era public works program and in 1988, became the first in the nation to be named in honor of the late civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr.. Since 1981, the building has been under the management of the General Services Administration (GSA), which oversaw its expansion from five to seven stories totaling 377,000 sq. ft. by creating interior mezzanine floors. Upon completion of a rehabilitation led by the Atlanta office of Lord, Aeck & Sargent (LAS), it will house the GSA’s Southeastern headquarters." ~waymarking.com Text on reverse: The beautiful building, one of the most pretentious Post Office Buildings in the country, will cost $2,975,000. It is located on Spring, Hunter, Forsyth, and Mitchell Streets. It has a total floor space of over five acres, and will house some 200 Federal office units. Postmarked Jul 18 1955 Tifton GA.
